One of the biggest lessons we continue to learn at K9 Heroes 4 Heroes is the importance of knowing what you don’t know.

Loki and I, along with our entire team, are always networking, learning, training, and building relationships with people who can help us become better at what we do.

Because when your mission is providing Service Dogs to Veterans and First Responders at no cost, "good enough” can never be the goal.

We owe it to the heroes we serve to keep learning, keep improving, and keep moving forward.

Our mission is too important to maintain the status quo.

We take care of our dogs…but are we taking care of ourselves?

Today I took a little time for a cryotherapy session.

We make sure our dogs get the right nutrition, exercise, training, recovery, veterinary care, and plenty of rest.

But sometimes we forget about the person on the other end of the leash.

Life gets busy. Work, family, responsibilities, training, and serving others can quickly push our own health to the bottom of the list.

But taking care of yourself isn't selfish.

It's what allows you to keep showing up for the people and dogs who depend on you.

Take care of your dog.
Take care of your people.
And don't forget to take care of YOU.

Loki and I are recharged and ready to keep moving forward.

Some legacies never stop serving.

Anthony J. “Tony” DeFranco served our country during World War II, fighting across France with the 358th Infantry under General Patton.

His compassion continued after the fighting ended, as he helped care for children whose lives had been devastated by the war even children of those who had once been our enemies.

Today, Tony's legacy continues.

K9 Heroes 4 Heroes is incredibly honored to receive a $35,000 gift from the Anthony & Marilyn DeFranco Charitable Fund to fund a Service Dog for a Veteran or First Responder.

More than 80 years after Tony served his country, he is still serving others.

Because of you, Tony, another hero gets a heeling partner.

Forever grateful. Never forgotten.

K9 Heroes 4 Heroes is looking for someone with **grant writing experience** who can help us research funding opportunities and write grants to support our mission.

Every grant we secure can help provide the resources needed to train and place Service Dogs with Veterans and First Responders at absolutely no cost to the recipient.

You may never train the dog or hand over the leash, but your work behind the scenes could help make that life-changing partnership possible.

We're looking for someone who believes in the mission and wants to put their experience to work for those who have served us.

There’s nothing better than seeing the support for our mission firsthand.

When someone hears that K9 Heroes 4 Heroes is at an event and makes a special trip just to stop by and show their support, it means more to us than they know.

Events like this give us the opportunity to meet new people, share our mission, and educate our community about the incredible difference a Service Dog can make in the life of a Veteran or First Responder.

There’s so much more to raising a Service Dog than training commands and tasks.

Our Service Dogs in Training spend countless hours with their trainers learning, working, traveling, playing, and experiencing everyday life together.

Along the way, something pretty special happens.

They become family.

Our trainers treat these dogs like their own. They invest their time, patience, experience, and love into each one, knowing that someday this dog will become a lifeline for a Veteran or First Responder.

And eventually comes one of the hardest moments...

Handing over the leash.

They love them like their own while preparing them to change someone else's life.
