Meet Louie 🖤

Louie is a 5 year old Cane Corso mix that I’m excited to officially start lessons with. Like many powerful, genetically driven dogs, Louie struggles with impulse control and a strong urge to possess and guard things that he finds valuable. Unfortunately, that has led to him making some not-so-great choices in the past, including biting people.

But dogs are never just their worst moments. Underneath those struggles is a really sweet, goofy, fun dog who genuinely wants connection. Our first lesson wasn’t about jumping straight into obedience drills or “fixing” him overnight. It was about building trust, learning how to communicate with each other, and starting to create a relationship. We spent time getting to know each other, testing out some chicken as payment, and by the end of the lesson he was even confidently playing tug with me.

Rehabilitation and behavior work isn’t about suppressing a dog — it’s about understanding them, creating clarity, and teaching them better ways to navigate the world. I’m super excited to watch Louie continue to grow.

Lacey and Fisher are quickly becoming the best of friends! 🐾

A huge part of training is helping dogs learn how to coexist calmly, communicate appropriately, and build positive social experiences. Whether they’re playing together or simply relaxing side by side, these moments help create more confident, well-rounded dogs.

Watching these two get to know each other has been so much fun, and they’re both making fantastic progress in their training journeys!

One of the best ways to become a better trainer is to never stop training your own dogs.

Working my personal dogs in advanced obedience and protection forces me to constantly refine my timing, communication, and understanding of behavior. It keeps me honest. If I expect my clients to put in the work, I need to be doing the same with my own dogs.

Advanced training isn’t just about flashy skills. It’s about building clarity, trust, and a relationship where your dog understands exactly what is being asked of them, even in high-pressure situations.

Every session with my own dogs teaches me something new—about motivation, genetics, drive, problem-solving, and how to better communicate with the dogs and people I work with every day.

The moment you think you know it all is the moment you stop growing. My dogs continue to challenge me, humble me, and make me a better trainer for every client that trusts me with their dog.

Never stop learning. Never stop training. 🐾🖤

Can’t wait for this! Reach out to Happy Hounds to register!

We are SO EXCITED about this! We are now offering a monthly Dog Obedience class here at Happy Hounds! The class will be taught by K9aholics Michigan! You will learn the proper way to communicate with your dog to effectively teach your dog the manners you want them to have, you will also learn basic leash skills, basic commands and corrections, and the skills to take home to continue! This class is limited to 10 people / dogs, the class will be held outdoors (will be indoors if weather is bad) Our first class will be June 1st at 6pm! Cost of the class is $50 (must be paid by cash, check, or venmo prior to the class to reserve your spot). Class will last 1-2 hrs.

Champ is officially in the building 🐾

This young golden retriever is here for my 6-week board & train, and we’ve got some important work ahead. Champ has been struggling with resource guarding and has unfortunately made some not-so-great choices, including putting teeth on his dad.

Over the next six weeks, we’ll be addressing those behaviors head-on while building clear communication, structure, and accountability. Alongside that, we’ll be laying a solid foundation in obedience so Champ can make better, more confident decisions in and out of the home.

Rehab isn’t about punishment—it’s about clarity, fairness, and follow-through. Excited to help this guy turn things around 🩷

Fresco the 5-year-old pitty just checked in for his 4-week board & train 🐾

He’s here to build confidence, learn neutrality in the world around him, and sharpen up his basic obedience. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be focusing on helping him feel more secure, make better choices, and handle new environments with a clear, level head.

Confidence isn’t created overnight—it’s built through structure, guidance, and consistency. Can’t wait to show this guy how cool the world can be!
