It will assist our children in learning natural sciences and eco systems that make up Alabama Creeks and Rivers. Thank you again Senator Scofield!!

Today, Owens Cross Roads Elementary was recognized as a "High Flying School" by AL.com's Education Lab Team. We were recognized, along with 42 other schools in our state, for outperforming our peer schools despite some research-based barriers to student achievement. To be a high flyer school, a school must meet the below criteria on the state assessments and demographic data.

We looked for schools that met these parameters:
1. School-wide student poverty level of 48% or higher (756 schools), and
Spending less than $2,000 per student in local tax money during the 2018-19 school year (589 schools), and
2. Proficiency on spring 2021 math and English language arts tests at 120% of the statewide proficiency level for all grade levels tested in the school and all students:
3. 120% of statewide average math proficiency
4. 120% of statewide average ELA proficiency
