Cruz is a regular guest with the Scholl pack. He is staying with us this time because his humans are away celebrating their 45th Anniversary! Sharing in life’s “happenings” with my clients is an aspect of being a pet sitter that I cherish.

Daisy’s “Dad” had knee surgery and her “Mom” has her own health issues so they just needed a little help with Daisy for a few weeks. Daisy has a LOT of energy so we go for walks or play fetch after her feedings. This dog is one of those that can hardly contain their HAPPY.

The two pups that are almost identical are part King Charles and Bichon AKA Cavachons. Kailani is full King Charles Cavalier. Two different families but happen to be staying with me at the same time. It’s fun to see them together…the biggest resemblance I see is the eyes otherwise the boys are a LOT of Bichon. Pictures were hard to get because those boys are B.U.S.Y. 😜

Yesterday was Kailani’s 3rd Birthday. I have been able to help her owner take Birthday pictures since her 1st and 2nd Birthdays. It’s so much fun to see her pampered like this. Her owner is a special needs teacher. The kids love Kailani- stories so her, of course,her owner loves sharing Birthday pics with them.

This week is Professional Pet Sitter Appreciation week. The day was created by Pet Sitters International to give thanks to those in the pet sitting industry and to educate pet owners about the benefits of having a pet sitter care for their pets. The need for pet sitters is growing because more people have pets and more people treat those pets like part of the family.

This week should also be a week to highlight what is involved in being a pet sitter…it’s more than just “I love working with animals.” While that’s the biggest part of the job, there’s so much more to it. It’s giving up weekends and holidays, it’s worrying about multiple houses when storms come through or temps get below freezing. It’s knowing what to do if a pet gets injured or ill…and their vet is not open? It’s knowing what to do when you walk into a house and there’s a water leak or taking care of a garage door that you’ve accidentally backed into. 🤭 It’s knowing what to do when you get in YOUR car and it won’t start but you have 5 pet sits to do or you get a flat tire between pet sits or worse, you’re in an accident while doing your rounds. It’s being willing to give your heart to countless critters which means that heart of yours breaks when one of those critters passes away. The pets become like-family but so do their humans. Time management, flexibility and multi-tasking are important to this career. You learn allllll the different ways pet owners care for their pets and you gotta keep that straight. There’s no calling in sick or working from home. It’s learning to cope when you make a mistake, because you will. No day is like the day before, which is exciting, but you also gotta be ready for anything. Yet, you get up every morning, ready to face whatever the day may bring, why?
Because of moments like this ⬇️

A cat’s whiskers are a sensory tool to help them get a feel for their surroundings. Their whiskers protect them, guide them, and help them hunt. The whiskers are so sensitive to movement that they can sense air currents and vibrations. Cats also use their whiskers to communicate with each other and even us, if we would just “read” them. The whiskers are fascinating. They even play an important roll in helping cats with their balance and amazing ability to almost always land on their feet. Tatt has pretty cool whiskers doesn’t she?
