Meet our current board and train dogs! 🌤️

Duke is a 5 month-old Belgian Malinois here for a 4 week board and train program focused on proofing general basic obedience skills and establishing clear household manners! This sweet boy has a ton of energy and a brand new baby at home, so we have been working hard to help him learn to direct that energy appropriately and to settle down when it’s time to relax.

Toby is a 15 week-old Belgian Malinois here for a Puppy Foundation program! This little man is a typical Malinois (especially in the way he hates to be contained and loves to bite), and we’re so glad that his owner opted for professional guidance right off the bat to help set him up for long term success.

Veverka is a 2 year-old Belgian Tervuren, which is another variety of Belgian Shepherd (essentially a long coated Malinois). Are you guys sensing a theme here yet? 😂
Vee is here for a 4 week behavior modification program centered on addressing her separation anxiety, reactivity, and resource guarding tendencies. We’ve been working hard over the past few weeks to set clear boundaries, build her confidence, and proof obedience skills that will make it much easier for her family to manage her back at home!

Mia is a 5 month-old German Shorthaired Pointer also here for a 4 week board and train! This girlie has been learning all about everyday manners and obedience expectations, especially when it comes to jumping up on people, chasing chickens, and recall off leash.

These guys all head home soon, and we’re so excited for their owners to see all the progress they’ve made! 🤗

• We currently have availability for 2 week board and train programs starting the week of May 5 in Baldwin City, KS, with very limited availability remaining for 4 week programs starting June 2.

Introducing our newest foster dog, Sage! 🤍

Sage is a 4(ish) year-old Border Collie from Rescue K-911, hanging out here with us to work on basic obedience skills and everyday manners until her perfect home comes along.

She is a super self sure and independent girlie who is social with people (she looooves belly rubs!), but would likely do best as the only dog in her household. She is not dog aggressive and is generally pretty neutral with other dogs (she can enjoy walks or off leash hikes with them without issue), but she prefers not to share her toys or people with other dogs at home.

Sage would make the perfect running or hiking buddy for an active home! She is crate trained, potty trained, and ecollar conditioned with a reliable off leash recall. She is also spayed and UTD on all vaccinations and preventative. Please reach out if you think you may be a good fit for her- we’d love to help set up a meet and greet! 🐾

Meet our current 4 week board and train dogs! 🌟

Arlo is a 5 month-old Mini Aussiedoodle here to learn all about basic obedience and everyday manners! She is a super energetic girl who is learning to contain her excitement around new people and dogs, and we’re focusing especially hard on curbing her tendency to jump up on people, learning to drop and leave items when instructed to, and establishing a reliable off leash recall even with distractions present.

Patrick and Oliver are 5 year-old Mini Schnauzers here for a big behavior overhaul. These two are littermate brothers who have grown very used to demand barking, barking at strangers, barking at other dogs, barking when they’re excited, barking when they’re unsure, barking when they’re upset, barking at leaves blowing in the wind…you get it 😅 They are also very codependent and have a fairly unhealthy outlook on separation, both from each other and from their people. We have been working hard to implement some much needed structure and boundaries, and to help them learn coping skills and obedience concepts that will make living with them so much more enjoyable for their family!

Leia is a 5 year-old German Shepherd who has been jumping her family’s fence, chasing cattle, and blowing off obedience commands in favor of doing whatever SHE wants to do instead. We’ve been working to teach a very reliable off leash recall and “leave it” command so that she can safely tag along to help with chores without compromising her safety, or the safety of the livestock her owner is caring for. We’re also proofing her knowledge of other important basic obedience skills and day to day manners to help her family manage and exercise her more easily back at home!

We currently have *one* spot left remaining for a 4 week board and train program in Baldwin City, KS starting March 24- after that spot is filled, our next availability for 4 week programs will not be until June.
You can find details about that program, including pricing info, on our website (www.eliteobedience.com).
Please reach out with any questions, or to get your dog signed up!

There is SO much more to dog training than just “playing with puppies all day.” 👏🏼

If you’re considering a career as a dog trainer, make sure you know the full extent of what that job entails! If any of these duties sound unappealing to you, dog training may not be the right fit for you after all. 🐾

If you’ve done training with us, you know that we are huge advocates for crate training! Recently though, I had an experience with one of my personal dogs that fully cemented that belief for me-

A few weeks ago, my 1 year-old puppy Coven underwent emergency surgery to remove a foreign body that was stuck in her colon: a piece of one of her stuffed toys that she had torn off and eaten before I was able to take it away from her. Surgery went really well, but afterwards we were facing 2 weeks of strict crate rest during her recovery with an extremely active and high energy young dog.

I am so grateful that Coven has been crate trained since puppyhood, and that being confined to a kennel while she recovered was not an additional source of stress for either of us. She was kenneled at the vet’s office after her surgery for the rest of the day while she was monitored for potential complications, and then she spent the next 14 days crated with me at home. And she was OKAY- she loves her crate, she was not stressed or anxious to be spending her time there, and she is good as new now.

An emergency surgery was definitely not anywhere on my radar when this happened; I don’t think emergencies are really ever on ANYONE’S radar- but they happen, and proactively crate training your dog can help ensure that you’re as prepared as possible in case something unlucky comes up (a medical emergency, an evacuation, emergency crate/rotate, etc.).

I can’t imagine how stressful and scary it would have been for her to have had no prior exposure to crate training, and then suddenly be confined to a kennel for weeks with no preparation. THAT is why we ask you to crate train your dogs. I promise, it is not because we want to see your dogs living in a kennel- it’s so you have the peace of mind of knowing that if you ever need to confine them, they will be as comfortable as they can be.🤍

Starting off 2025 in the best possible way- Honey, Annika, Argus, and Ellie Mae are all puppies (7 months and under) are all here for 4 week board and train programs! 😍

Honey is a 5 month-old Mini Bernedoodle who is just a genetically very nervous girl. Her level of insecurity makes it super difficult for her family to make any type of training or socialization progress with her, and also makes potty training extremely challenging due to her excessive submissive peeing. We’ll be working hard over the next month to help Honey learn that the world isn’t nearly as scary as she thinks it is, and to instill obedience skills & management techniques to help her family enjoy her more easily back at home.

Annika & Argus are 3 month-old Great Pyrenees mixes here to learn all about puppy obedience! These cuties will be livestock guardian dogs on their family’s farm someday, but for the time being they’ll be learning all about greeting people politely, coming when they’re called, and socializing appropriately!

Ellie Mae is a 7 month-old Mini Goldendoodle who is here to learn all about basic obedience and household manners. She is a super energetic girl who jumps excessively and looses her ability to listen or focus when she’s overly excited- we’ll be working hard to help her learn to regulate her emotions and settle more easily in the house, as well as instilling solid on & off leash obedience skills proofed around distractions.

We are so excited to get to work with these babies! 🤍

We have one spot remaining for a 2 week board and train at the end of January, with 4 week spots opening up mid February! Visit our website (www.eliteobedience.com) for program details & pricing info, and reach out with any questions or to get your spot reserved!
