We are told some pretty interesting things in rescue! But, we agree with Dolly's Dream Home Rabbit Rescue, and we educate instead of attack, explain instead of shame, and meet people where they're at and try to move them forward.
Being angry won't help the bunnies. Instead, education and patience will make the biggest difference. Well said, Dolly's Dream Home Rabbit Rescue!
Rescue is…a lot.
Like, “clench your jaw so often, so hard, that you crack teeth” kind of a lot. I’d know - I’ve cracked several and now have to get at least one root canal.
It’s hard. It’s emotional. It’s frustrating. Some days feel like you’re trying to empty the ocean with a spoon…and the spoon has a hole in it.
So yeah, we could be angry all the time. There’s definitely material.
But here’s the thing - being angry 24/7 doesn’t help the bunnies. It doesn’t help the people we’re trying to reach. And honestly, it doesn’t help us either. We’d burn out faster than a bunny eats banana.
So we make a very intentional choice:
We educate instead of attack.
We explain instead of shame.
We meet people where they are and try to move them forward.
Not because everything is sunshine and rainbows…but because that’s what actually creates change.
Also, and this is important, the bunnies did not sign up to live in a constant cloud of negativity.
So we keep going. We keep teaching. We keep showing up.
And when needed…we scream internally, then go back to educating nicely. Because far too often, people are miseducated - not malicious. And everyone deserves to learn, so they can do better in the future.
