💔 A CONVERSATION WE ALL NEED TO HAVE.
It is with profound sadness that we share this post.
One of our beloved Boxer families has lost their battle with illness, leaving their dogs behind. The family reached out to us to take them back into rescue.
Now, in their senior years, these dogs have lost everything they have ever known. Their beloved person is gone, and the life they knew has been turned upside down.
Our hearts break for everyone involved. 💔
Sadly, this is not an isolated situation. Over the past few months, we have faced several heartbreaking cases just like this. Owners and loved ones have passed away, leaving their dogs behind with no one able to care for them.
We think of dogs like Alan and Lilly Rae, whose mom passed away and whose family was unable to take them in.
These dogs didn’t do anything wrong. They simply lost the person who was their entire world.
So today, we ask you a difficult but important question: HAVE YOU MADE A LIFE PLAN FOR YOUR DOGS?
🐾 Are your pets included in your will?
🐾 Have you spoken with family members or trusted friends who could care for them if something happened to you?
🐾 Have you made specific arrangements and received their commitment in return?
🐾 Do you have a written agreement or a plan in place to ensure your pets will always have somewhere safe to go?
We don’t like to think about illness, emergencies, or the possibility of leaving our beloved pets behind. We hope for long, healthy lives filled with love, happy memories, and many more years together.
But loving our pets also means planning for the day when we might not be there to care for them.
At AABR, our adopted dogs have a safety net. They are welcome back to us for life. But not every rescue or privately owned dog has that promise. Without a plan, these beloved companions can find themselves grieving, displaced, and sitting in an already overcrowded shelter, wondering where their family went.
Please don’t leave your pets’ futures to chance.
Have the conversation. Make the arrangements. Put your wishes in writing. Make sure the people you trust understand what your pets need and are willing and able to help.
We wish everyone a long, healthy, and happy life with their beloved companions. But responsible love means preparing for the unexpected, too.
❤️ They depend on us for their whole lives. Let’s make sure someone will be there for them if ours are cut short.
