🐾 Why Training Neutrality Matters 🐾

One of the most important skills a dog can learn is neutrality—the ability to remain calm and focused around distractions. Other dogs, people, wildlife, and exciting environments shouldn’t automatically trigger a reaction.

A neutral dog is more confident, easier to handle in public, and better able to focus on their owner. True socialization isn’t about interacting with everything; it’s about learning to exist comfortably and calmly in the world.

Remember, neutrality doesn’t mean your dog can’t be social—it means they learn when it’s appropriate to engage and when it’s time to simply observe and relax.

A calm dog is a confident dog, and confidence creates freedom. 🐶✨

Clarifications for our members about the ATD regulations regarding images.

There have been several questions regarding the recent clarification made by Alliance of Therapy Dogs (ATD) concerning the ATD Media Authorization Form. The ATD Media Authorization Form, referenced in Rule 50, has been a requirement for many years.

Recently, Members requested clarification regarding whether identifiable features in photos could be hidden by blurring or covering them with stickers. After discussion at a recent Board meeting, the Board determined that this practice is not acceptable. While it may have been considered sufficient in the past, advances in technology now make it possible to enhance images and potentially identify individuals despite these actions.

It’s important to take a moment to review your photos before sending them to the ATD Office or posting them on social media. A quick crop can often remove any identifying features and help protect the privacy of the people in the photo before you share it.

In addition, if a facility, organization, or individual shares photos with you that they have taken, you may not repost those photos directly from your personal account unless you have a signed ATD Media Authorization Form. However, you are welcome to share or repost the original post from the facility or individual who published it. There have been instances where individuals faced consequences for posting photos they did not take, even when their intentions were positive. In many cases, questions regarding authorization arise after the photo has already been shared.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in following these guidelines which help protect the privacy of those we serve and ensure our Members are protected.

Peggy and Harry won this years Frist Humanitarian Award given at UCF Lake Nona Hospital in May. It is quite an honor to receive the award though none of us do it for the recognition! Peggy has faithfully served the hospital for over 4 years, was one of the original members of the pack, and over this past year lent her support to the new Bereavement Support group helping to get it off the ground. Way to go Peggy and Harry!!

Belle, Lacey and Harry had a great time last night visiting with some of the residents. One resident told us they forgot to let everyone know the pups were coming. But those who came loved catching up with us and petting the dogs💜

Lacey, Belle and Sylvie had a busy night! As soon as we walked inside, people wanted to see the dogs! The lots of people on the floors! There’s surely a special happiness that comes from meeting these great therapy dogs💜
