Today's training was exhilarating for both Sammy and Rev! While Sammy enjoyed dashing through the tunnel with lightening-fast speed, his forte turned out to be heeling with impeccable obedience. As for Rev, nothing could beat lounging on that large blue ball or chair —a true gentle giant charming everyone with his mellow demeanor. Our duo stole the show among many admiring glances.

Let's talk crate training!

Crate training is an essential tool for owners. Dogs are natural den animals and as long as crates are never used for punishment or abuse (left in the crate for long periods or time or too small of a crate), your dog should naturally gravitate to it as a place of rest.

**This is my 1st day introducing the crate (door stays open) and as you can see the puppy has naturally gravitated to it to sleep).**

Step 1: Size - choose an appropriate sized crate

Step 2: Mindset - crates are a place of rest. *Never use as punishment.* If the puppy goes in the crate during inappropriate times (play, right after eating because they want to get out to potty, too long) the puppy will associate negatively.

Step 3: Comfort - I used a sherpa fleece bed mat and toys. *Collars should come off!* The puppy could get caught and strangle itself or get hurt.

Step 4: Reward - reward your dog for going in the crate. A toy or treat is helpful.

Step 5: Time - monitor how much time is spent in the crate. As a rule, one hour for every month of age up to 8-10 hours max once achieved.

Step 6: Be Patient - crate training is no different than teaching your dog any other skill. It takes time.
