Today a big part of our souls left us.
Buster was taken in for bloodwork because we got some trazodone for him for the 2 weeks of 4th of July. The week before his appointment we noticed that he was very round. When his appointment time came, we were told he was in early stages of right sided heart failure after they did an x-ray. Seeing this was the answer I had made an appointment to get his abdomen drained so we could temporarily give him some relief.
Joe and I ended up taking him to Flat Rock, NC to Western Carolina Animal Hospital on Saturday night to get him drained since we couldn't get in until Tuesday for his vet, we have come to know and trust them because remember, we were just there 4 months ago with Princess and the year before with Baxter.
Well come to find out, he was very much in the late stages of heart failure. They wanted to keep him over night or maybe 2 if they did the drain on his heart and abdomen (which is temporary) we opted out and the alternative was euthanasia at this point to stop his suffering. Joe and I decided to take him home that night and they provided us with some pain meds and upped his diuretics to hopefully slow it down a little. We had full intentions of getting someone to come to the house for at home euthanasia on Sunday but there was no availability and we had to wait until today.
He woke up on a mission today. He had a Bojangles sausage egg and cheese biscuit with some of his daddy's bacon and then of course his all time favorite STRING CHEESE! for breakfast. Then trying to get him to go poo and move a little, I took him out the front door and of course he insisted on a full blown walk with his daddy following behind us in the car. He took the long way to the mailbox but got his sniffs and markings in 1 last time.
