Recently, Drs. Jen and Grant Hebel were asked to lead a group of students in a lecture and wet lab on TCVM and chiropractics to the Zoo, Exotics, Wildlife, and Companion Animal Club.
A great experience for all involved. Excited to see where these young vet students will take their careers and how alternative therapies may be a part of their paths.

📣 PSA: New Service for Existing Clients only on recommendation by your pet(s) veterinarian!
We are excited to announce that our own Becca, LVT has become certified in small animal massage! As an added bonus to our clients, our doctors can now recommend this extra service to help enhance your pet's treatment(s).
What is small animal massage?
Small animal massage is the exercise of special hand maneuvers on a pet to enhance muscle and joint functions by alleviating tension, spasm, or confinement in the pet's mobility.
Our veterinarians can recommend this service to any existing client/patient to add another level of care. For example: when combining our veterinarian's chiropractic or acupuncture treatment with the added service of small animal massage, your pet may enjoy a greater benefit than with the other modalities on their own.
The combination of modalities can help their muscle and skeletal systems work together better. When muscles are relaxed, pain alleviation tends to last longer. Becca is currently offering massage on Thursday afternoons. Ask your doctor at your pet's next appointment if massage is right for your pet.
Meet Becca, LVT, SAMP
She received her Associates degree in Veterinary Science at Iowa Western and has been Licensed as a Veterinary Technician since 2014. Working in general practice, she wanted a more whole-body approach to wellness and started at Five Elements in 2020. With massage therapy as a goal, she attended Northwest School of Animal Massage and became certified in small animal massage in 2021.

Meet Dexter! He first came to see us in November and was unable to stand or walk. He did not have the use of any of his limbs. He had been diagnosed with IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease) in the neck. We treated him over the past few months with acupuncture, chiropractic, Chinese herbs, massage and rehabilitation exercises. Today at his recheck appointment we were excited to see that a few days ago he stood up and took a few steps on his own! We expect him to continue to get stronger in the following weeks.

Some of you have seen Dr. Sara Santin around here lately.
She’s been with us part time for a few weeks now and will be with us through Dr. Jack’s maternity leave.
Dr. Sara has been a veterinarian since 2018. She graduated from Iowa State and started her career as an equine vet and switched to small animal.
She is originally from Fullerton, NE and in her spare time enjoys reading, going to the gym, and riding horses.
She offers acupuncture and chiropractic at our practice.

We get questions on occasion about non-ingested style chew bones. Many say their dogs will not chew them. We found these Lumabone chew bones at Sams Club and our dogs love them. Angus is slowly starting to relax and interact a bit. We can’t imagine what the poor fella is thinking right now but we’re grateful to foster sibs Chelsi (resident doggo) and Ella (pictured, left, and available!) for showing him lots of love! Angus has appointments at both Papillion Animal Hospital and Five Elements this week for full check ups, a bit of chiro and perhaps also a bit of acupuncture. He’s going to be a busy boy but we want him to be as comfortable as possible in his golden years!
This is Gizzie and VCA refered her to Give Elements. How do I make Gizzie an appointment and how much will I need to spend?
My rescue had Elephant skin, still chronic yeast problem. I am doing shots and pills and supplements and going broke! I need help. It's been over a year.
Brody came to Pug Partners in April 2021 and he was absolutely miserable. He came with an awful skin infection and was super itchy. He was missing a lot of hair with numerous areas that were just dry, crusty, flaky, infected and he was in pain.
At his intake exam with the vet, we did blood work. We learned that he has several environmental allergies and possible hypothyroidism. We scheduled him for an appointment with our friends at Five Elements Veterinary Alternatives to see what they could do for us. While we waited, we started him with new food, medicated baths every other day, cytopoint injections, steroids, and antibiotics to try to clear up the skin infection and stop his itchiness.
By the time he got in with Dr. Jack at Five Elements, he had lost some weight because he was so miserable & did not feel well. Further thyroid testing showed that Brody had no thyroid issues, so we were able to stop those medications! We did food testing - thank goodness he is only allergic to pork and milk! So once we found a food that he loved, we started working on gaining his weight back. The pug in him loved that part!
We started a couple of supplements with him, one in May and added a 2nd one in July. We also did a couple of rounds of antibiotics and stopped the cytopoint injections. We determined that there are likely a couple of factors that contributed to the skin issues. One is definitely environmental especially during certain times in Nebraska. The other is likely an autoimmune disorder - Atopy. Both are entirely manageable now!
By the end of August, Brody was starting to clear up finally! We were able to stop the steroids, antibiotics, and decrease the baths to 2x a week. He is back up to ideal weight. has grown back so much hair already & is continuing to grow hair! He had his dental on 11/22/2021 and is ready for his forever home! Costs for Brody alone will exceed $3000 before he is adopted.

Update on the Super-Kitties! Both babies are able to walk and run (when they aren’t being lazy) and they can also poo and p*e on their own. Foster momma is super excited about that part! The improvements these babies have made in just the last two months are incredible and we all can’t wait to see what their future holds!
