Welcome to the Pack our newest members - Sammy (6 yrs old) and Cooper (nearly 3 months old) who began their Leadership Essentials training this past week. Their owners reached out to us help get the new puppy oriented to their pack and ensure they are being the best leaders possible for their fur-babies.

Golden Retrievers are lovable, well-mannered, intelligent dogs. They are easily trained, and always patient and gentle with children. Devoted and self-assured, they are a popular family dog. Energetic and loving, Golden Retrievers enjoy pleasing their masters, so obedience training can be very rewarding. They excel in competitions. Friendly with everyone, including other dogs, the Golden Retriever has very little, if any, guarding instincts. While unlikely to attack, Goldens make good watchdogs, loudly signaling a stranger's approach. This breed needs to be around people who display leadership to be happy.

The Golden Retriever may become destructive and/or high-strung, over-exuberant and distractible if he is lacking in daily mental and physical exercise. Be sure to remain this dog’s firm, but calm, confident, consistent pack leader to avoid behavioral issues. Goldens are often used for service dogs, hunting, tracking, retrieving, narcotics detection, agility, competitive obedience and performing tricks. These dogs also love to swim.

Welcome to the Pack...our newest member - Cuda! She is a 1-year-old Staffordshire Terrier mix (possibly with Pitbull) who began her Pro Package (High Distraction) training this past week. Her owners reached out to us as they were having problems with reactivity on walks, pulling on leash, excitement and barking when guests come over, and general obedience issues. She was rescued from a shelter in Plattsmouth, NE who rescued her from a kill shelter in Texas.

The Staffy Bull Pit's earliest ancestry is traced back to England in the 1700s to the old-style English Bulldogs which were crossed with various Terrier dogs to add agility and the ability to think quickly and independently. The results of these pairings were known as bull-and-terriers, extremely well-muscled but agile dogs that were courageous and strong enough to assist with controlling bulls, to help hunters in taking down wild boar and bear, and eventually, to fight one another to the death.

Most quality breeders of both American Staffordshire and American Pit Bull Terriers have concentrated on creating a breed that is not only athletic and powerful, but gentle, loving, and loyal. These dogs are extremely trusting of their owners and can be quite eager to learn, but most have a short attention span. This is an active and athletic dog, requiring a minimum of an hour a day of vigorous activity in order to maintain their impressive physique. While these hybrids are perfectly happy with short jogs, long walks, and rough and tumble games of fetch, they are also quite good at other activities like frisbee, flyball, and even tracking trials.

Welcome to the Pack...our newest member - Charlie! He is a 12-week-old Goldendoodle that began his Leadership Essentials and Puppy Beginner training this past week. His owner reached out to us as she was having problems with recall, separation anxiety, crate training and pulling on leash on walks.

The beloved goldendoodle, a golden retriever and poodle hybrid, earns popularity points for his affectionate nature as well as his allergen-friendly coat. A goldendoodle's size depends on its poodle lineage. Standard doodles can exceed 21 inches in height and weigh up to 100 pounds, while miniatures are typically 14-17 inches tall and under 35 pounds.

While golden retrievers have coats that stick to the wheat or golden range, a poodle can be one of many colors—this variation also shows up in goldendoodles. While the teddy bear gold hue might be the most popular, breeding can also result in black, white, brown, cream, and red goldendoodles. In very rare cases, a pup bred from multiple generations of doodles will have recessive color traits such as gray, blue, or even be multi-colored.

Among those who love goldendoodles is Paula Deen. The TV personality and cookbook author has a cream goldendoodle named Gus, who loves to eat her homemade peanut butter dog biscuits. Other celebs with goldendoodles include Perez Hilton, Usher, Jensen Ackles, and Kenny Chesney.

Congratulations to Stormie! 👏🐕🐾She finished her Behavior Modification training this past week.

Her owners reached out to us to help get her separation anxiety under control, and ensure calmer, more relaxed walks as well as helping Stormie to learn to be calmer and more confident about where she fits in her family pack with a second baby on the way.

We are happy to report that Stormie is calmer on walks, even participated in a pack walk with another dog with no issues. She even remained calm when another dog was calmly welcomed into the family home. Stormie also learned about respecting boundaries and calmly waiting for things she wanted rather than being pushy, demanding, or barking. She quickly responded when she relaxed and could fulfill her natural born back of the pack role.

Every dog breed has natural instincts that need to be met or redirected. Tracking dogs should have the chance to use their noses and explore under human supervision, while hunting breeds should be allowed to express their hunting drives.
