Update on George ๐
Itโs officially been one week since George had his big surgery, which included being neutered, having his tail removed, and having his nares widened (thatโs a fancy term for opening up his nasal passages so he can breathe a little easier). Weโre happy to share that heโs doing excellent and seems to be feeling better each day.
However, during his recovery, we had a pretty scary moment. As George was waking up from anesthesia, his gums and tongue turned very pale, to the point where our veterinary team became seriously concerned he might not pull through. Thankfully, he stabilized, but this unexpected reaction prompted them to run additional bloodwork.
๐ดHereโs where things became even more concerning:
Just two weeks ago, his bloodwork was perfectly normal. But this time, there were some new abnormalities. On top of that, despite being on medication for a urinary tract infection (UTI) for the past two weeks, his symptoms werenโt improving as expected.
Because of these sudden changes, the vet team decided to dig deeper. They performed:
๐น additional blood tests
๐น X-rays
๐น An ultrasound
They found some โshadowingโ in his bladder โ essentially, something showed up that shouldnโt be there, though itโs not yet clear what it is. To get a better answer, we opted to run something called a BRAF test. This is a specialized test that looks for bladder cancer markers. Itโs been sent out to a lab, and now weโre doing the hardest part โ waiting.
We want to be fully transparent: We donโt know what this means for George yet.
But what we do know is this: George will continue to be safe, comfortable, happy, and deeply loved with us for as long as he tells us and until he tells us heโs too tired to go on. No diagnosis will change our commitment to him.
๐ More Good News! ๐
This weekend, thanks to an amazing and incredibly generous Cuddly Donor, George received his very own wheelchair! We are beyond excited to get him fitted properly and give him the chance to try out his new wheels. This is going to open up a whole new world of mobility and independence for our sweet boy, and we cannot wait to share updates once heโs rolling!
