Pets are people too

In late March 2012 Don and Julie moved from Iowa to Florida. The plan was for Don to transfer from the Iowa Best Buy to the Ocala Best Buy, and for Julie to find a job while waiting 1 year to be eligible for in state tuition to get a nursing degree.

When Don went to the Ocala Best Buy, they acted like they’d never heard of him...even though he’d gone in before the relocation to confirm he’d be hired and they said yes. They also said there weren’t any current openings. He got mad, went home and burned his Best Buy shirt and started delivering pizzas. He was using a 1992 Camaro as the delivery car and sometimes spending more on gas than he made for the night. Julie was taking online classes and trying to find a work at home job...to no avail. She’d been researching business ideas as well and noticed that pet waste cleanup was becoming a thing. One day when frustrated, she threw her hands up in the air and declared “We should just start a p**p scooping business!”

Don immediately said “I have a cd program that has all of the paperwork and steps to take to start a pet sitting business, we could use that to get started.” A few years earlier, when in between jobs in Iowa, he’d ordered the program to start a pet sitting business in Iowa, but then was hired by Best Buy and put the program away.

They stared at each other a moment...then Julie shrugged her shoulders and said “Ok.”
