Double whammy spotlight, cuz I owe ya!

Part 3 of our dog-friendly flower series shines on a simple, easy to grow, classic duo…Marigolds & Alyssum.

🧡Marigolds attract pollinators, repel pests, and add beautiful pops of sunshine wherever they’re planted.
💜Alyssum just smells SO GOOD (plus it’s cute). The common colors are white and purple. But many don’t know that there’s a yellow variety too!

& these flowers don’t have to be planted together, of course. Aren’t they a good looking team tho?!

Honoring the end of an era✨

I searched for my local JoAnns in Maps today, and the permanently closed message popped up in red.

In my little world, JoAnns has been one of those stores that has held a space throughout every decade of my life, every year. I remember how it felt when I learned how to sew as a teen…and paging through the pattern magazines and file cabinets, for hours, just wide-eyed with possibility. From sewing to knitting and crocheting, to tye-dyes, to fimo clay, to appliqué and puffy paints lol, to fleece for dog toys…JoAnns was like the best choose your own adventure book, but in real life.

Had to take a moment to put a pin in these memories today. And to send out a big thank you to JoAnns, for being a dog-friendly store and a source of inspiration and creativity for so many♡

Since the sun fiiinally returned here in Wisconsin, we’re giving the mammoth sunflower a spotlight this week!

These mighty flowers can reach up to 12+ feet in height, with one single stem, which by the end of the season always seems more like a small tree trunk to me☺️. Watching a sunflower grow from a spunky little sprout to a towering, jack and the beanstalk style plant is pretty magical. AND, every part of the sunflower is dog-friendly…Otto and our dog pals love shredding the giant leaves and proudly toting around the stalks. It’s good fun for all.

These bright, practically smiling flowers bloom nonstop from spring through autumn, come in a variety of stunning colors (including bicolor petals!), and yep, they’re dog-friendly. Meaning, these plants are non-toxic, and won’t poison your pet, if they take a nibble.

We’re kicking off something new with this post, and ‘tis the season, right?! Spring has me digging in the dirt daily, full on believing I’m a farmer, and absolutely slacking on social media😆😅🧑‍🌾. Soooo, I’m thinking sharing a bit about dog-friendly growing might help me get back in the swing…a new plant every week or so, maybe??
