Coming into January/February it is the prime time to prune your fruit trees or even your more mature trees for structural pruing. Had a very hazardous fail this week! Box elder tree, split at the included bark. Coming down on top of 2 sheds 4 sections of fence and a trampoline. Luckily no 1 was injured. Things like this can be avoided if the right actions are taken. Client had tree pruned a few years ago, could've have been braced/bolted, pruned heavier on the inclusion side or even removed and had a new one planted. When removing limbs from a tree, you need to be selective and know "when and when not too!" Something of this size should've remained In tact. The removal of such a large limb caused can/had caused the decay to spread up the canopy along scaffold limbs. Make sure you consult with your fellow arborist about your "wants" about your trees; If it's more light to your yard, garden, limbs sratching your homes, vehicles in your driveway, etc. You don't need to remove such a large limb to accomplish the goal!
