Yesterday, June 2, at approximately 6:00 PM, a truly heartless act of animal cruelty occurred at the corner of Wadsworth Road and Blake Road.
According to a witness, a red truck (possibly a Chevy) threw a trash bag from their moving vehicle while quickly rounding the corner. Thankfully, a resident at the property where the bag landed saw it happen. Something didn’t feel right, so she went to investigate.
What she found was horrifying.
Inside the trash bag were six live kittens, estimated to be just 3-4 weeks old. They were covered in f***s and had been discarded like garbage. Also found in the bag was a small Tupperware container containing milk.
Had this Good Samaritan not trusted her instincts and checked that bag, these kittens almost certainly would not have survived. At their age, they were far too young to fend for themselves, find food, escape danger, or even safely free themselves from the bag. They also endured being thrown from a moving vehicle before being left on the side of the road.
Thankfully, she immediately brought the kittens to safety, cleaned them up, fed them, and contacted us for assistance. Because of her actions, these kittens are alive today.
We are now asking for the public’s help in identifying the person responsible.
If you witnessed anything suspicious in the area of Wadsworth Road and Blake Road around 6:00 PM on June 2, or if you know of someone who had 6 kittens they were looking to “get rid of” and might own a red truck, please contact us. Any information, no matter how small it may seem, could help.
There are situations where animal abandonment stems from lack of resources, or difficult circumstances and others try to extend sympathy towards their actions. This is not one of those situations that calls for sympathy. Placing six helpless kittens into a trash bag and throwing them from a moving vehicle is not a misunderstanding, a mistake, or an act of desperation, it is animal cruelty. Plain and simple.
We are appalled beyond measure and are committed to pursuing every lead available. The person responsible needs to be held accountable.
