🐾 Mouse here, speaking on behalf of Avery and me. 🐾

Can anyone sponsor some disposable gloves for our caretakers? 🙏

Diaper changes can get a little… nasty. Especially with Avery. 😆💩

If you can help, I added the link in the comments.

Avery and I appreciate every bit of support — especially for the humans who keep taking care of us, no matter how messy Avery gets ❤️🐾

😂😂 Oh, Four.

One tiny nail trim and suddenly he needs a full-time nurse, emotional support, and a recovery suite.

FOUR: “Cyndie clipped my quick. I have suffered greatly. Please kiss my paw and tell everyone about my bravery. 😭🐾 I may never walk again. Call a treatbulance.”

Who else has a sensitive, overly dramatic dog? 🙄

THIS is why Afton's story matters.
Part 2

Afton waited more than FIVE YEARS for someone to see what we saw.
Not because he was broken.
Not because he was dangerous.
Not because he wasn't adoptable.

Because people judged him, people fall for looks instead of compatability. And let's be brutally honest about rescue. People don't always choose the dog who needs them most. Or a dog that fits their lifestyle.

They choose the dog they want.
The cute one.
The fluffy one.
The puppy.
The popular breed.
The dog with the “perfect” sad story.
And there's nothing wrong with having preferences. But........hmm

Here's where it becomes a problem:
People confuse preference with facts.
A shepherd mix must be difficult.
A big dog must be dangerous.
An older dog must be unhealthy.
A dog with a history must always be a problem.
A dog that has killed livestock can't be trusted.
A mixed breed must have a predictable temperament based on whatever breeds someone thinks they see in its face.

NO.

That's not how dogs work.
Genetics matter. A LOT.
But behavior is influenced by genetics, environment, learning, socialization, experiences, management, and the individual dog.

You cannot look at a mixed-breed dog and magically know its entire genetic makeup or predict exactly how that dog will behave.
And you absolutely cannot judge an individual dog solely by its breed label. Because most likely we are wrong.

A dog is a dog before it is a breed.
Afton is proof. He had prey drive. We didn't ignore it. We worked with it. We managed it.
He learned. That's responsible rescue.
Not pretending a dog has no instincts.
Not pretending every dog is safe in every situation. And not labeling a dog “bad” because they have instincts that humans find inconvenient. Or caused.

Afton learned how to live respectfully around animals. And now? Guess what?
He has three kids. A dog. Two cats.
Loving parents. A home. A family.
A FOREVER.

The same dog people were afraid of.
The same dog people passed over.
The same dog who only had NINE inquiries in more than five years. Think about that. Because somewhere right now, another Afton is sitting in a shelter or rescue or sadly euthanize because no one was interested. Another dog is being overlooked because of its looks. Another dog is getting passed over because someone thinks they know who that dog is without ever meeting them.

That's what I want you to remember.

Don't adopt blindly.
Don't ignore behavior or safety.
But STOP judging dogs before you know them. Ask questions. Meet the dog.
Listen to the rescue. Learn about the individual. And give dogs a chance to show you who they actually are.

Because sometimes the dog everyone else passed over… is the damn dog you've been looking for.

Afton waited five years.
He shouldn't have had to.
But 2 days ago, he finally went home.
And seeing that boy with his family?

Worth every damn day. ❤️
Happy forever, Afton.
You were never the problem.
People just needed to see past the story.
And finally… your people did. ❤️

Yesterday was a HUGE day for us.

AFTON GOT ADOPTED. ❤️

But this post is more than an adoption announcement. Please read the post that follows.

Afton now has three beautiful, awesome, kick-ass kids, a dog to follow around, two kitties to snuggle with, and parents who absolutely adore him. Praise God, the universe, and all that's good!!

This boy has been waiting since February 2021.

Let that sink in.

He was a BABY when he came to us. Maybe 4 or 5 months old. He had been surrendered to another rescue and then transferred to us because he had unalived some chickens.

And apparently, once a dog tastes blood, they're automatically a homicidal maniac for the rest of their life. 🤯

Black Jesus. 🙄😂 I can't make this s**t up.

People heard his history and decided they knew Afton. Before getting to know him.

Afton had NINE inquiries during his entire time with us. Just Nine. But I included him in hundreds of meet-and-greets, and he was passed over again and again.

People heard his history and got uncomfortable. They heard “unalived chickens” and decided he couldn't be trusted. 🙄

He's also a shepherd mix, so that didn't exactly help either. You know, the shepherd community love their purebred while the average community would feel intimidated or unsure.

Afton was a good dog. He has always been a good dog. We worked with him. We managed to eliminate his chicken curiosity 😋.

He learned. He learned to respect our chickens, our goats, and the pigs we temporarily housed. It took time and work but we managed and he learned.

He has always been amazing with kids.
He has always been loving, goofy, loyal, and just… Afton. Great with dogs and gentle with cats even our rabbits.

He wasn't sitting around for five years plotting his next chicken massacre. 😂

He was waiting. Waiting for someone to look past the story and actually see the dog.
And recently, someone finally did.
After more than five years.

Yesterday I dropped him off. And watching him with his family made all our patience and efforts worth every second.

Yeah. This one got me. Because this boy waited a LONG damn time. But he finally got exactly what we wanted for him.His own people. His family. His forever. And damn it, I'm so happy for him. ❤️

Happy tail sweet boy. Sharing life with you for the last 5 plus years was a joy and a blessing.

Moises fostered Afton. Send him some love. He is missing him.

🤣 🤣 🤣 Are you my kind of people?

According to an animal communicator on Facebook, Lookie sleeping on my pillow means he believes we are equals and trusts me with his life.

First of all, that ain't my pillow..... 😂

I see it a little differently. But I'm no psychic or a medium.

Maybe he likes the pillow.

Maybe it smells like the pack.

Maybe it's just comfortable.

Maybe he's just a dog who found a really good spot (My money is on this one).

Lookie is still fearful and reactive. I’m not going to assume he trusts me with his life because he favors a old, shapeless donated pillow.

I’ll let Lookie decide when he trusts me.
And when he does, I promise I won't need a Facebook content creator animal communicator to translate it for me.

I'm positive he will let me know. Most likely by not trying to bite me.

Lobo’s foster-to-adopt is officially OVER. ❤️

And I’m damn happy to say this boy has landed exactly where he belongs.

He didn’t just get adopted. He got his people, his home, and his brothers. And apparently, these three have decided they’re best friends now. 😂

This is what every day looks like. Just dogs being dogs, hanging out, playing, sleeping, and doing life together.

Mom couldn’t be happier. Lobo couldn’t be happier.

And me? I’m just over here grinning like an idiot because THIS is why we do this s**t.

Happy forever, buddy. You’re home. 🐾❤️

Lobo was with us for 1 year, 3 weeks. His foster dad Hugo misses him but is over the moon happy for Lobo.

$5 FRIDAY — WE ARE OUT OF DOG FOOD.

Not almost out. Not running low.
OUT.

We have enough scraps and odds and ends to stretch things a little, but we will not make it to Tuesday.

And right now, Animal House Sanctuary Rescue has $0 in rescue funds.

I hate having to keep asking. I hate that basic necessities have become an emergency. But the dogs still have to eat, whether donations come in or not.

And food isn't the only thing hanging over us.

🐾 Avery has a $78 balance at VCA that needs to be paid.

🐾 One of our senior kitties needs a refill of thyroid cream — $129.

🐾 Dog food — we need help NOW to get enough to make it through Tuesday and beyond.

This is the unpretty side of rescue.

There are no fluffy success stories today.

No cute adoption announcement. No feel-good ending.

Just animals who need to eat, a medical bill that needs to be paid, medication that can't wait, and a rescue account sitting at ZERO.

If you can send $5, $10, $20, or whatever you can spare, it truly matters.

Five dollars doesn't sound like much until 20 people give five dollars. Then it becomes a bag of food. It becomes medication. It becomes a bill getting paid.

Please help us get through this.

We don't need much from each person.

We just need enough people to care. ❤️🐾

$5 Friday. Please don't scroll past us today.
