A horse farm in Virginia made it official last month and gave their barn cat his own stall. Ned had already been sleeping in the empty stall at the end of the row for over a year, so they hung a nameplate on the door to match the horses.

The plate reads NED and lists his job as "Barn Supervisor." He has a feed bucket and a folded blanket. The farm says the horses have accepted him as one of the row, and Ned now expects to be let into his stall at night like everyone else.

A farm in Vermont lost its rooster to old age back in the spring, and within a couple of weeks the barn cat had quietly taken over the job.

Every morning Biscuit walks out to the coop, waits by the door, and leads the hens out into the yard in a loose line behind him.

He does a slow lap of the fence, the hens following the whole way, and then he sits down and lets them get on with their day.

The farmer says he never trained him to do any of it and has stopped trying to explain it to people who visit.
