I’m getting many questions about Luna and I am more than happy to chat. But here are some basics.
No matter how healthy, playful and active your Maine C**n is, it is necessary to have them echoed every 1-3 years. This is something you need to discuss with your vet, they will let you know their opinion on how long to wait between echoes, we as breeders do it every year.
HCM is something that is nearly impossible to predict. Thankfully DNA testing can be done on cats used for B so we can hopefully cut down on the chances of a cat getting it through genetics. However, DNA testing does not cancel out the fact that they may eventually end up with this horrible disease. Unfortunately Maine C***s are very susceptible.
Whether you get your cat from me or from anyone else, please make sure correct testing is done. Do not believe catteries who ensure their cattery is free from HCM. Do your research and talk to your vet. And echos are your friend. Catching it early means your kitty can go on medications to hopefully prolong his or her full and joyful life.

Sweetest girl ever! She is only 9 months old. She has 1 recessive trait for HCM so she can’t be bred. I did do her echo even though she is not a year and she is clear. She will need echos every year- like every Maine C**n. She could live to be 20 or she could end up with HCM. Unfortunately, as any vet will tell you, HCM is not predictable at all. A cat could be negative across the board with perfect echos for 15 years and still be diagnosed at 16.

So our new house has no central air. All I’ve heard today from the cats is that it’s “too hot” and I’m a “horrible mom”. Ridiculous. Then I walk in the living room and find this. I told them when I was younger we had no air conditioning and I survived, as did my long haired cats.
They need to suck it up.
