Surrey Hills Sanctuary

Surrey Hills Sanctuary Surrey Hills Sanctuary is a non-profit (501c3) micro-sanctuary dedicated to the human-animal bond.

Surrey Hills Sanctuary is a non-profit (501c3) founded in 2013. Located on a 7 acre farm in upstate New York, SHS is dedicated to providing a home for senior animals or those with special medical needs. Many of these animals have been discarded or unloved and SHS is often their last chance to live our their lives in a safe and loving environment. Our sanctuary is available to farm, companion (dog/

cat/bird) and wild animals. Although senior and medical needs animals are our specialty, we occasionally provide a home for animals that are healthy but due to special circumstances are without a home. In line with our mission, our sanctuary provides a permanent home for select wild/feral animals and birds that are unreleasable due to special medical needs. Surrey Hills Sanctuary is not a rescue organization or your typical animal shelter. Our animals arrive at our door only via referral from veterinarians, shelters and wildlife rehabiliators. We rarely adopt out our animals, unless we feel that the potential adopter will be able to care for the animal’s special needs. SHS is an alternative to euthanasia for most of these animals. We provide them with the love, attention, care and enrichment that will enable them to live fulfilling lives, despite their physical limitations or age. In addition to the Sanctuary, SHS provides funding to other established animal welfare organizations (such as the Wild Bird Fund or Frankie's Friends). SHS provides educational information and lectures to those interested in learning more about Animal Behavior and the Human-Animal Bond.

Little Oscar is doing so well!! He’s now very shy around people, probably because of all the medical treatment he received! But he’s very sweet so we will be patient and just keep reassuring him that he’s safe.

Happy Caturday from Sweet Pea, Sooty and Groot!

These three were rescued from a hoarding situation in 2019. They were in a house with over 75 other cats, one litter box, and mounds of clutter and filth. Parts of the house had no electricity and when rescuers went in they unfortunately found dead cats under the clutter 💔

These three had ringworm and upper respiratory infections when they came to us. They also were very feral.

The first photo is them as kittens after they came to us in 2019. The other photos are more recent photos of them as adults. They are now happy and healthy living at our sanctuary.

The rest of the cats were eventually rescued from this house though it took two more years.

Happy Friday everyone!

Magnus wanted to pop on social media to thank everyone for being here and to ask for some help.

It’s $5 Friday and we are still raising funds for hay! We currently go through about one bale of hay a week which costs $65. We would love to raise funds to cover hay for July today!

We raised $25 on Tuesday so our goal for today is $235. If anyone can chip in $5, it would be appreciated !

It’s Wish List Wednesday!

We could really use help with food for the animals this week. We are caring for over 40 animals here at the sanctuary and as you can see imagine we go through food supplies quickly!

Any help you can send is appreciated !

▪️Our Amazon Wish List: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2ZBDDFUYGVCWZ/ref=nav_wishlist_lists_2

Monetary donations are also appreciated. If you can chip in a few dollars towards food, it helps out so much.

In addition to the items on our Amazon list, we also spend $65 a week on hay for the cows, Magnus and Callum.

Chompy is not only a therapy dog but also a kitten baby sitter ❤️Chompy was found many years ago as an emaciated stray in the Bronx. He came to Surrey Hills, regained his health and has since gone on to give back to others in so many ways. He is now retired from therapy but spent many years helping others in so many ways. This is an older video but we wanted to share it with you on this Caturday. We hope everyone has a great weekend!

Happy Summer Solstice and Happy Friday Everyone!

We are doing a $5 fundraiser today to raise funds for the over 40 animals currently at Surrey Hills Sanctuary.

Did you know that we have many different species who call the sanctuary home? We share the property with chickens, cows, pigeons, rabbits, quail, pigs, dogs and cats!

As you can imagine bills for food and vet care add up quickly.

If anyone can Chip in today just $5 (or more if you like!) to help us raise funds for the animals care, we would be forever grateful.

Look how much better Oscar Wildcat’s wound looks!

We are so happy and grateful to the vets who have been treating him.

Thank you also to everyone who has chipped in so far to help pay down his extensive vet bills.

We still need to raise funds to cover the rest of his treatment bills.

If we could raise $250 today for $2 Tuesday it would help us out so much!

We would like for you to meet our bachelor flock: Enrique, Flash, Olaf, Randy, Allen, Myrtle and Lavender!

They were rescued from different places but now all live together in harmony.

Roosters are hard to find sanctuaries and homes for because they don’t have the best reputation and many townships don’t allow them.

However they are all individuals and just like with other species, some are friendly and affectionate and some prefer their space. Regardless we love them all the same ❤️

Today is a very special day at the sanctuary!

It’s Dorian Grays 12th birthday!

He came to us as a tiny kitten after being found as a stray in Brooklyn. He was so small he could fit in one hand!

We love him so much and we are so happy to be celebrating 12 years with this sweet cat !
