Today was a day I’ll never forget.I spent half the day at Paws and Claws Animal Welfare Society Inc. shelter in Cairo, delivering all the medical supplies, medicines, oxygen cage, flea & tick prevention, vitamins, toys, blankets brought from NY, thanks to Paws & Claws donors.
I did inventory to assess what’s needed to keep the shelter running smoothly. But more than that, I reconnected with cats and dogs I met three years ago, and met so many new rescues now calling this place home.I was completely blown away by how clean, organized, and well-maintained everything is.
The animals looked happy, healthy, and clearly loved. I visited the special needs cats and those in the quarantine ward.
The recovery cages are incredibly spacious, giving them enough room to rest and heal comfortably after surgeries or illnesses. One kitten, in particular, touched me deeply. Her name is Pearl, a tiny Persian fluff ball who had to have both eyes removed due to a severe infection. She’s only alive today because Nancy from Paws and Claws rescued her and made sure she got the care she needed to survive. Despite everything she’s been through, Pearl is a little beacon of joy. As soon as I picked her up, she started purring and rubbing her face against mine. She still has an IV access port for her medications and fluids, but her spirit is strong, and her will to live is even stronger. I had to fight back tears while holding her.I’m so happy to be here again, helping the animals and being part of this organization since its humble beginnings. To see how much has been achieved with such limited public support is truly inspiring, but we need your help to keep going. Over the next several days, I’ll be fully immersed at the shelter, getting to know more about the medical conditions of the cats, assisting some incredible veterinarians with spay & neuter procedures, and of course, spending more time with little Pearl. Please consider visiting the Paws and Claws page and showing your support.
Whether it’s through donations, sharing their mission, or simply spreading the word, every bit helps.
Thank you!
