🇺🇸 Dusty and I don’t need to remind you, America: you probably should vote. And we’re not gonna sugarcoat it or be oblique — you should probably vote for Harris-Walz. Like Taylor Swift, we’re also a part of the Childless Cat Lady Club (though we don’t have any cats in the apartment, we’re certainly friends with a few).
Yeah, the world is awful, but the way I see for life to get better and more progressive policies be put forward (bigger pets allowed on airplane cabins again?), voting for Kamala is the path of least resistance. Reduction harm. All that jazz.
I remember Trump’s presidency clearly. I worked in higher education whose large student population immigrated from other countries, and under his administration and with his divisive rhetoric, we saw a lot of prospective students too scared to apply. I saw a lot of layoffs of coworkers. And when COVID hit? I was furloughed for several months, and this was right after Nico passed away. And let’s not also mention a lot of environmental protections lost, relationships with other counties deteriorated, racial tensions, and the confirmations of conservative Supreme Court Justices that led to abortion bans. It was a dark time.
So yeah, you want change? You want to fix and help the world? You want to keep your freedom — both in speech and in body autonomy? You probably won’t get that with Trump, who’ll probably dissolve any sense of democracy or the right to protest. If you’re in a swing state (and yeah, the electoral system is broken), don’t stand by and watch the world burn even more.
