Sniffaris are dog-led walks! They're a fantastic enrichment activity that can be done in just about any low-traffic area. Not only will this help burn energy, but allowing our dogs to make decisions and think independently can help them build confidence in different situations. It also gives us a chance to stop and take a breath along with them AND allows our pups to do a natural, essential behavior for their mental and physical well-being.💙

Why would I, whose life revolves around companion animals, post an article asking if we should stop keeping pets?
I obviously don't think that we should stop, especially in the case of dogs and cats, with whom we've co-evolved. We wouldn't be who we are without having shared our histories with the other.
But I also believe that animals are not humans' to use for our convenience, and I think this article provides a chance to back up and look at the big picture. It underscores the tremendous responsibility we have to our animal companions. We need to keep our eye on the ball, so to speak, and constantly remember our obligation to keep them feeling happy and safe.
