There are lots of amazing feelings being a veterinarian.
My top 5 are
1) when dog or cat has had nothing but high FAS inducing visits prior to coming to me and then after working together and having successful happy visits....they go from not being able to be touched to allowing or even welcoming handling, blood collection and vaccines and more with minimal stress and no injectable anesthesia or they actually love coming in
2) a severely difficult surgery case with high risks and or complications makes it past that critical window and does well
3) when a pet comes in taking its last breathes and you were able to get them resuscitated and back home with their owners to live another day
4) geriatric pets (if you know you know)
And last....is what this photo represents
5) the diabetic cat that goes into remission!!!
Having a diabetic pet turns your world upside down. It changes your routines, your pets diet, injections or pills every day and having to be on high alert for changes, prepared always for an emergency and checking blood values which aren't always the easiest!
This is one of our patients who has been a diabetic for a couple years. He had a crisis where his blood sugar dropped too low and needed emergency care.
He was sent home to do a glucose curve but doing those in hospital can be difficult for cats and give falsely high results from stress. With LIBRE FREESTYLE monitors a pets blood sugar can be monitored every minute and show trends of the day.
And our friend here has been in the good zone for several days!
He is no longer diabetic!!!
