Canine Cohen Dog Training and Behavior Modification

Canine Cohen Dog Training and Behavior Modification Brooklyn based behavioral programs and personalized dog training solutions. I believe that dogs deserve to have the best lives possible.

That’s why I apply the best training techniques to motivate your dog, inspire you as a dog owner and help foster a better relationship between you both. Over the years, it's been an honor to help dogs with separation anxiety become more comfortable when they're alone; teach dogs in multi-dog households how to live peacefully with each other; help dogs understand how to come when called; and even h

ow to walk calmly on the city street near other dogs. But one of the most rewarding achievements is helping dogs overcome their fears, enabling them to become confident and happy dogs. Seeing humans learning to communicate properly with their dogs, for me, is what it's all about. Over the past year, a lot has changed.

After more than a decade helping dogs and the people who love them, I made the difficult decision to update the Canine Cohen website from “Temporarily Closed” to “Closed Until Further Notice.”

Unfortunately, my health hasn’t allowed me to return to dog training.

Last year, I was diagnosed with dedifferentiated retroperitoneal liposarcoma, a rare and aggressive soft tissue cancer. After major surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and another surgery, I was hoping to start getting my life back.

Then earlier this year, I was diagnosed with aleukemic leukemia cutis, an extremely rare form of leukemia that, in my case, appeared in my skin before it showed up in my blood or bone marrow. I’m currently undergoing treatment to keep it from progressing.

Right now, my full-time job is fighting cancer.

This wasn’t an easy change to make. Canine Cohen has been a huge part of my life, and I know many of you have supported me, trusted me with your dogs, and become friends over the years. I’ll always be grateful for that.

The story isn’t over—I just don’t know what the next chapter looks like yet.

For now, I’ll continue sharing updates here on the Canine Cohen social media pages.

Thank you all for your support, patience, and understanding. It truly means more than you know.

Just wanted to share a quick update on where things stand in my cancer journey and talk a little about what it’s really like living with two rare cancers.

Thank you to everyone who’s been following along, reaching out, and supporting me. It truly means a lot.

The F Cancer shirts from Adayo Style arrived — and yeah… they nailed these.

My friends Jason & Jessica from Adayo Style designed them, and the angry face logo perfectly captures the mood of fighting cancer some days.

Today I had every intention of taking the dogs on a long walk this afternoon.

Nice day out. Felt good getting outside.

But my body said, “Not so fast, buckaroo.”

Started getting out of breath. More exhausted than I realized. So we turned around and headed home.

And honestly… I think that’s just my life right now.

You make plans.
You have good intentions.
You think today maybe you’re back to being yourself.

Then reality taps you on the shoulder and says:
“Yeah… not today.”

So you do what you can.
And tomorrow’s another day.

I guess that’s enough sometimes too.

Quick update.

I finished the infusion treatment for the leukemia cutis last week and have now started the pill portion of treatment. It ramps up as I go — day 1 was one pill, then two, then three, and moving forward it’ll be four pills a day.

I’m also taking two additional pills to help prevent shingles… one of the many fun side effects that can come with treatment.

I’ll be getting bloodwork once or twice a week to keep an eye on platelets and blood counts. If things drop too low, transfusions may be needed. Good times.

So far side effect wise, some nausea and just not feeling great, but hanging in there and taking it day by day.

I also completed an online questionnaire for the high-risk genetics team and will be speaking with them next week to hopefully get more answers about what’s really going on.

The current plan is three weeks on the pills, then repeating the treatment cycle.

Thank you to everyone who continues to reach out, check in, and support me. It truly helps more than you know.
