Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC)

Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) Animal Care Centers of NYC is the largest animal shelter in NYC! By participating on this page, you are agreeing to the terms outlined below.

Individuals from all over the city come to Animal Care Centers every day of the week for reasons as diverse as surrendering pets, reclaiming lost cats and dogs, and adopting new furry family members. izations (our New Hope partners). Our field services division responds to calls from the public to help keep NYC communities safe and rescue animals in need, and we have facilities in all five boroughs. ACC Social Media Policy

Looks like Olive found herself the purrfect new beginning

Her adopter Emma () writes:

“From the moment I saw Olive (formerly Oyster Sauce), I knew she was meant to be mine. Those bright green eyes completely stole my heart!
She settled in so naturally, like she had always belonged here, and my apartment instantly felt warmer and happier with her in it. She has the sweetest little personality. She quietly watches birds from the window for hours, follows me from room to room just to see what I’m doing, and then suddenly tears through the apartment with the zoomies and her favorite mouse toys.

No matter what kind of day I’m having, she always finds a way to make me smile. Somewhere along the way, she stopped feeling like ‘just a cat’ and became my little companion. Every night she curls up on her own pillow beside me, and it’s hard to imagine life before her. I’m so incredibly thankful to the Manhattan ACC for bringing Olive into my life. She truly feels like the missing piece I didn’t know I needed.”

From shelter cat to soulmate, Olive is proof that sometimes the right companion finds you exactly when you need them.

For today's ACC Happy Tail, we're sharing the story of Bingley, who really turned the page to a brand new chapter!

His adopter Lynne writes:

“I had been looking at NYACC’s adoption listings off and on over the last several months. The main things I was hoping for with a new companion were a sweet, friendly personality, a good walker, and a cuddler. Bingley has been all that and more!! We have had a wonderful time getting to know each other, and I could not be happier. I renamed him Bingley after a character in the novel Pride & Prejudice because of their similarly happy personalities.

Bingley was a stray with no history and was very underweight. I don’t know how or why he ended up on the street, but I’m so happy to give him a new home and lots of love! He’s very friendly with new people and other dogs, he’s house trained, and already knew many commands in Spanish, so we’ve been doing bilingual training. He is up to a healthy weight now and doing wonderfully! He is now best friends with my roommate’s dog, Orion, who is a German Australian Shepherd mix. Bingley’s favorite activities include long walks, snuggling, giving kisses, and playing with his new squirrel plushie.”

From stray to spoiled, Bingley is proof that shelter dogs can fit perfectly into your story.

Meet Bueller (244129) at Manhattan ACC!

Bueller’s Bio: https://nycacc.app/ #/browse/249464

Bueller just had a photoshoot and is very proud to present his new bio pic like the handsome boy he is. He is a long stay sweetheart who takes a little time to warm up and really appreciates slow, gentle introductions and a calm rhythm. Once he trusts you he turns into a total lovebug, rolling over for belly rubs, soaking up attention, and happily melting into couch naps. He’s looking for a patient, experienced home where he can feel safe, learn at his pace, and finally relax into being someone’s best friend.

Happy Tail Alert!
Looks like Rain’s cloudy days are officially behind her ☔️

Her adopter Alexandra writes:

“Rain is the sweetest girl! When I first spoke to the ACC about adopting her, I was told about her story and how anxious she might be. But the very same day I adopted her, she was already rolling over for belly rubs 🙂

In these first few weeks, I’ve realized pups like Rain just need a bit more patience, but once you show them consistency, they really flourish. She has opened up so much, from initially being afraid of outside to now being super excited for her walks. She’s super affectionate, smart, and loves to play. She’s the perfect pup, and I hope stories like hers encourage others that there are plenty of other great dogs out there like Rain.”

Every dog blooms at their own pace, and Rain is proof that a little patience and love can change everything.

Today we're sharing the happy tail of Fiona.

Her adopter Rijuta writes:

"When I walked in to browse through adoptable cats and dogs at the Manhattan ACC, I had no idea that my life was going to change in all the wonderful ways it has. Fiona (now called Fiona Rose) chose me, not the other way round. I was told that she was a fearful and stressed out dog, but when I met her, she readily came to me for pets and treats.

The day I went to pick her up from the shelter, there were no signs of any nervousness at all. She knew she was going home with me, she knew I was her mom now.

It’s been a hectic five weeks since I got her, and she has filled my life with love, laughter and a lot of outdoor exercise. She is a Siberian Husky who can play all day, and because of that I have been getting plenty of exercise!

She is very sweet and friendly with people, though she doesn’t like other dogs too much. I regularly get stopped during our walks and people compliment me on how gorgeous and cute Fiona is. Even the vet is charmed by Fiona’s sweetness.

I love her and she loves me back even more, and it’s a true blue New York love story."

IF you're inspired by Fiona's adoption story, consider writing your own by stopping by Queens, Manhattan, or Staten Island ACC during adoption hours. No appointment is necessary.
