5 Simple Steps V2:
There is a very good chance that if you have owned a dog of any kind, an ear infection can be something you might experience. Especially if they are in water often or rapidly changing climates (like where I live). Besides keeping them well groomed, their regular hygiene needs attention as well.
Cleaning the ears: Regular cleaning of a poodle's ears can help prevent infections by removing any debris or wax build-up. Use a gentle cleaner specifically made for dogs, and never use cotton swabs as they can push wax further into the ear canal.
Antibiotics: If your poodle has an ear infection, antibiotics may be prescribed by a veterinarian to treat the underlying bacterial infection. These can be given orally or as ear drops.
Anti-inflammatory medication: Anti-inflammatory medication can help reduce swelling and discomfort in the affected ear. This can be given in conjunction with antibiotics or as a standalone treatment.
Keeping the ears dry: Keeping a poodle's ears dry, especially after bathing or swimming, can help prevent infections. Use a clean towel to gently pat the ears dry after getting wet.
Avoiding irritating substances: Avoid exposing your poodle to substances that can irritate their ears, such as water with high levels of chlorine or harsh shampoos.
As always, consult your veterinarian first to make sure your using the right treament for the right situation.
