A surprise, intern class reunion at our “ANCHORed in Community” CE event last week!

Drs. Erica Mollica from Carroll Gardens Veterinary Group, Farrah Horowitz, and Tony Kahn were intern mates at The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center 20 years ago!

Now they’re leaders in NYC’s veterinary community! And still just as excited to learn new things together

THANK YOU everyone who attended last week’s “ANCHORed In Community” event with Torigen Pharmaceuticals!!!

This was Anchor’s 1st CE event in Brooklyn! Curious primary care teams from all over the city gathered at a favorite spot in our neighborhood near Anchor BK HQ. 🏠

TOPIC: How to collaborate with Torigen + Anchor’s mobile surgery teams to make cancer treatment more accessible for pets in NYC & Long Island! 💫🎯💯
~~~~~~~~
HOW DOES TORIGEN WORK?
🧬 Torigen makes affordable immunotherapy (personalized cancer vaccines) using the patient’s own tumor.
🧬 You can still use your practice’s go-to pathologist & oncologist if you’d like.
🧬 It’s 🆓 to send fresh tumors to Torigen (..NOT in formalin!). Samples are saved for up to 1 year to make into a vaccine if/when the pet’s owners choose to do so.
🧬 There is no downside to submitting a sample! And as Torigen receives more tumor data, they learn how to fight cancer even more effectively.
~~~~~~~~

WHY HOST EVENTS?
⚓️ Anchor hosts CE events like this because we feel it’s important for our veterinary community to be more collaborative, supportive, and symbiotic.

⚓️ We’re passionate about finding *practical*, effective solutions to surgical problems that are backed by clinical research.

⚓️ We want to share as much knowledge & resources as possible with Anchor’s community so that we can all achieve even better surgical results TOGETHER!

Last weekend, we roadtripped to Maryland to attend Mobile Veterinary Surgery’s annual social event for their referring veterinary teams.

What better way to kick off the summer than a baseball game with friends?!

We’ve been fortunate enough to see Dr. Betsy Arthur’s team several times this year! Both for fun & to learn about the latest advancements in surgery together!

It’s so wonderful to be a part of such a supportive, mobile surgery community! Thanks again for inviting us!

Welcome to our network of partnering vet clinics, Kind Vet!!! Congrats on opening your beautiful, new hospital!

Dr. Allen Menasche’s team did a fantastic job hosting us for our 1st mobile surgery together! Their team truly is *so* kind!

We also had the pleasure of collaborating with our longtime partnering teammate Quisha at this visit!

Quisha has helped many practices grow & thrive. She was even featured for her work on the cover of Vet Candy recently! Awesome job, Quisha! You’re an inspiration for vet techs everywhere! 💫

Enzo is a 10 year old, intact female chihuahua mix who was rescued by Waggytail Rescue with a lemon-sized mammary gland mass and a chronic diaphragmatic hernia.

When she was rejected for surgery via the rescue programs at local specialty hospitals, Dr. Gagliardi referred Enzo to Anchor for mobile surgery at Cooper Square Veterinary Hospital as a Hail Mary attempt to help her.

Rather than perform a high risk, open chest surgery to fix the diaphragmatic hernia (a problem she may have always coped with), we focused on removing the mass so that Enzo would feel more comfortable and could enjoy a better quality of life.

Enzo’s mastectomy was an extremely quick & smooth procedure thanks to Dr. Kahn’s speedy surgical skills, an injectable anesthesia protocol, and the all-hands-on-deck efforts of the Cooper Square team. ✨⚓️💫

Enzo’s foster reports that she is doing fantastic at home and has been resting so much more comfortably without her mass getting in the way. 💞

Follow Waggytail Rescue for updates on Enzo and other rescue pups like her!

Anchor’s surgeons can help even when their recommendation is “no surgery”.

Dr. Kahn & C. Mike have been collaborating with Dr. Justin Lamb on surgery cases for over a decade. When he referred his own dog for this scary situation, Dr. Kahn was happy to provide support ASAP. We are SO relieved that Dino’s doing well & didn’t require surgery!! Give him some extra PB for us ! (no jar this time!) 🤍⚓️🤍

Anchor offers NO-FEE surgery consultations for all veterinarians, not just for our friends! By directly collaborating with referring doctors & providing continuing education in every interaction, we believe we can help improve the quality of veterinary medicine in our community!

Simply complete a Remote Consult request on our website with all of the case details & diagnostic results. We’ll be in touch with recommendations within 24hrs Mon-Fri. We can almost always swoop in for mobile surgery within 2 weeks of a referral. Often sooner!

Have you ever met such a handsome idiot? This dumb dumb ate a broken glass jar of peanut butter! Several tongue lacerations and a belly full of glass shards later, he is now in the “clear”! 💩 Many thanks to my friends and for their help and expertise 👏

🙁 Do you meet a lot of pets with cancer?

😬 Are their owners worried about chemotherapy and/or the cost of visiting a multi-specialty referral center?

😸 Come learn about Torigen & mobile surgery at our 6/26 Anchor Community Event! Torigen makes affordable, personalized cancer vaccines using the patient’s own tumor cells.

Together, we can improve the accessibility of cancer treatment!
1️⃣ Anchor mobile surgeon removes tumor at GP vet clinic.
2️⃣ Torigen makes vaccine targeting that pet’s specific cancer.

Rosalina broke her wrist (radius/ulna) as a puppy. The fracture was repaired by another surgeon and healed.

Two years later, the implant became exposed 😬…

We collaborated with Modern Vet Care to help Rosalina in the comfort of her regular vet clinic:
⚓️ Removed the metal plate & screws.
⚓️ Applied bone graft to the screw holes to speed up bone healing.
⚓️ Applied Simini Protect Lavage to reduce the risk of surgical site infection.

We’re happy to report that Rosalina is healing well at home! Thanks for your help, Modern Vet Care team!!!

~~~
Simini Lavage is designed to destroy biofilms (bacteria’s defense mechanism) and resistant bacteria. Clinical research has shown that Simini is 99.98% effective in removing bacteria.
We had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Kate Margalit from Jewel Veterinary Surgery last week!
Kate’s getting ready to launch her mobile surgery service in South Carolina and was eager to learn EVERYTHING about how Anchor operates in NYC & Long Island!
Kate’s a New Yorker originally and an old friend of the Anchor crew. She & Tony were surgery residents together at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital and before that, Kate completed her internship at LIVS while Dawn was a surgery technician there. Small world!
Welcome to mobile surgery life & the network, Kate!!! ⚓️✨💎✨⚓️
Meet Herbie, the newest member of Anchor East’s crew!
Herbie is surgery tech Sam’s 8 week old Great Dane puppy, seen here at his puppy exam. Who better to examine Herbie than Dr. Miglorino at Huntington Animal Hospital who has 2 Danes of her own! (big big love to Albus & Mouse 💞)
Herbie’s already 26lbs and growing fast! At this rate, he’ll soon be even bigger than Albus!
04/05/2024
Surgical site infections are one of the most common complications in veterinary surgery.
After ~5 years of mobile surgery, we’ve had ZERO orthopedic implant infections & 1 incisional infection (traced to the hospital’s surgical scrub).
One way we avoid infections is by aiming for a starting O.R. air temperature of 65-68°F before the surgical lights, patient-warming devices, and human bodies warm up the room.
If the O.R. is >70°F before we even get started, the risk of infection is too high and we are unfortunately forced to reschedule surgery.
Please keep this in mind as the weather heats up! 🥵
❄️⚓️⛄️⚓️❄️
FEATURING: some examples of partnering teams who have used Anchor’s data to make their O.R.s safe for orthopedic surgery.
Many have even purchased a thermometer+hygrometer like ours to start monitoring O.R. conditions more closely for their own surgeries!!
Dr. Kahn & Dr. Philippa Pavia taught a Fracture Repair class together last weekend, but they’re always eager to learn new things too!
Dr. Pavia has performed a bazillion TPLOs in a referral hospital setting and was curious about how Anchor does mobile TPLOs.
Here’s Dr. Kahn showing her his tips & tricks for a mobile 2.4mm TPLO at City Veterinary Care a few months ago.
Shoutout to the fine folks at City Vet Care for being a prime example of how to host an Anchor visit. It’s such a pleasure collaborating with you all!
