Here we go again! Summer in the city ain’t that pretty when you are a dog! When temps soar like they will in the next few days, following a few simple guidelines will keep your pup safe.
First and foremost do not leave your dog outside unattended- no backyard while you’re not home!
Our Percy would literally mistakenly bake himself to death if given the chance!
Sidewalks are hot, concrete is hot! It’s hot at 75 degrees, now 95 degrees??? Forgetaboutit!!! if it’s too hot for the palm of your hand it’s waaay too hot for their little cute pads. If you have access to grass stick to it, if you can carry your dog to grass, do it! I don’t make the rules! I just follow them! Pick that 60lb dog up and walk to shore road, it’s your cardio for the week! Jk. Keep walks all business, go out for a 💩 a p*e and skedaddle back inside. A short walk never killed anyone!
Panting, drooling, unsteady legs, racing heart, vomiting/diarrhea & excessive thirst? Yes these are all signs of a major night out for humans but they are also signs of heatstroke in your dog! If this should happen move your dog to a cool area, offer small amounts of tepid water, soak fur with cool -NOT COLD water, place near a breeze or fan. If worried that your dog is not coming around call VERG in Brooklyn and get your pup there like yesterday!

NEVER leave your precious & sweet dog in a car. If you do someone will break the window, steal your dog, videos will be all over the internet and you will never live it down. And if that doesn’t happen your dog will die a painful and agonising death. So just don’t do it.
Walks in the morning, walks in the evening, p*e breaks in the afternoon! (Did I just write a hit song?)
Water with ice cubes is nice!
Moving on to our outdoor wildlife in Bay Ridge, if you can put out some water and food for our feathered and furry dwellers it’s always appreciated! If a squirrel can drink some water and eat some nuts, a bird able to enjoy some seed, a skunk able eat some berries or whatever they like, a community cat able to have some kibble without having to forage- you are doing a small kindness that gives you good karma points and just makes life easier for our littlest Brooklynites!
Next up, the fireworks Armageddon! ugh…
