Cat people! Avoid feeding your kitties raw chicken (this includes freeze dried raw treats) and unpasteurized milk products. Keep your backyard poultry separate from any outdoor cats. There was a documented case of avian influenza in a cat recently in our area. Unfortunately it’s highly fatal to cats and he didn’t survive.

A new source of exposure highly pathogenic avian influenza is affecting cats: raw diets containing poultry such as duck, turkey, or chicken that were contaminated with the virus. Cats appear to be particularly susceptible to severe illness from H5N1, often resulting in death.

For a $50 donation, we will name a feral cat after your ex! The cat will then be spayed or neutered and returned to their home where they will no longer be able to reproduce. Because let’s face it, some genes shouldn’t be passed on!

Your donations will help the community cats of New Orleans, providing spay, neuter, and medical care that they would otherwise not receive.

Kitty people! Caution Re: use of newest combo flea/tick/heartworm/intestinal parasite product on the market for cats (Nexgard Combo). Cats with the rare MDR1 (multi drug resistant) gene mutation *cannot* handle the Eprinomectin in the formula, and in those kitties it can result in severe neurological symptoms. There’s a published article about it and the manufacturer is aware this can happen. As a side note, there’s also a genetic test available from Washington State School of Vet Med that only costs $70 and will let you know if your pet (dog or cat) has the MDR1 gene, which effects greatly how they react to certain drugs. Information is power and will help you make better decisions for your pets!
