Today, we’re celebrating someone very special to the WVH family — Emily.
If you’ve been to our hospital over the last few years, chances are you’ve seen Emily’s smiling face. For every summer and winter break over the past four years, Emily has chosen to spend her time here — not for a job, but for a purpose. She came to us as a bright-eyed high school graduate with a big dream: to become a veterinarian.
In our line of work, we meet many students with that dream. But Emily? She’s different. When others were catching up on rest during breaks, Emily was rolling up her sleeves, stepping into the trenches of veterinary medicine. Long days, messy cases, heartbreaking losses — she faced them all with grace, grit, and a smile that never wavered.
From day one, Emily showed a level of maturity and resilience far beyond her years. Veterinary medicine is not glamorous — it demands compassion, toughness, emotional strength, and unwavering commitment. Emily has embodied all of this and more, rising to every challenge with heart and determination.
In just a few days, Emily begins her next chapter as a first-year veterinary student at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. LSU is lucky to have her — and we know she will continue to make us proud as she grows into the remarkable veterinarian she is destined to become.
Emily, your WVH family is cheering you on every step of the way. We will miss you deeply, but we’re honored to have played a part in your journey.
Please join us in congratulating Emily — we are so, so proud of you! 💜💛🐾🦴😻🐅
