Dog training isn’t just about training the dog, it’s also about teaching the owners how to properly communicate with their pup. Doing this builds confidence and calmness in the dog, as well as allowing both the owners and pup to live happy, healthy lives.

Snagged Lana up from CCHS and took a walk in the park. Shes still doing really great with her commands thanks to the strong work put in by the CCHS staff. Lana is still available for adoption. Please feel free to reach out to myself or Colonial Capital Humane Society for more info.
Took a visit to the Colonial Capital Humane Society to work some pups and to visit Lana, our favorite shelter pup. I snagged her out of the kennel and worked a down stay in the yard with people and dogs all around. Lana is still available for adoption, and because she was one of our board and train pups, I will continue to offer maintenance training to her new owner so we can get her a happy and loving home! Teaching Snow that the kennel isn’t as bad as it seems. When Snow first came to me, she hated going in the kennel and would always play a quick game of “catch me if you can.” Here I’m using something she values (food) and I’m playing a game with her to make it fun and to build trust. Starting out I would have to throw food in the kennel to get her to go in, now she goes right in because she wants to beat me to the punch. In her mind, she thinks she’s cheating me and winning, but what she doesn’t realize is that she’s doing exactly what I want by her going in without receiving payment first.

We were getting ready for Maui’s go home, and I figured we would run one more session, but we would put a spin on things 🤣🥁
He did exceptionally well with transitioning his place to this carousel. Dogs usually have a hard time with standing on something this unsteady, and we usually have to spend a lot of time working on being able to have a pup perform a task like this. Maui was able to power through and we were able to get him up to speed on his new place board pretty quickly.

Taking the Cadillac out for one final spin.
Titan has been with us for the last 7 weeks participating in our Behavior Modification program. When I first met Titan, he was reactive to other dogs, animals, and people. Not to mention he was easily distracted by everything and walking him off lead was impossible. He would also attempt to fight other dogs through fences and other barriers.
Here we are at week 7 on his last day with me completely off leash in the front yard. Building confidence 💪 in pups
Teaching Luna to overcome her inner demons to gain her objective using a dopamine box 📦. This is a great tool that can be used to build confidence in dogs that tend to have “spooky” thoughts or have issues around certain distractors. This forces pups to stick their head into a tight space to gain something they desire without the ability to look around.
Luna is super food motivated, but tends to get spooked out when people make sudden movements near her causing strange noises. We start by teaching her to eat out of the box without distractions, and as she grows confident, we start to add distractions around the box while she focuses on the food at the bottom of the box.
Here she is learning to slowly overcome her fear of me sliding my feet across the concrete whereas before she would have melted into the floor or tried to run away.
These boxes are great tools for not only building confidence, but for imprinting as well.
