Have you ever seen a cuter snake?! 🐍✨

Meet Tilly Taco, the Ball Python!

Ball pythons are native to West and Central Africa.
When they feel scared, they curl up into a ball—just like their name suggests!🏀🐍

They were once even called “royal pythons,” because royalty, including Queen Cleopatra, was said to wear them around their necks like jewelry. 👑🐍

✨🦎CRESTED GECKOS!! 🦎✨

This is Echo, my crested gecko (Correlophus ciliatus).

Crested geckos are one of the most commonly kept pet reptiles. They are native to Southern New Caledonia. Crested geckos have no eyelids and instead have a flexible tongue used for licking their eyes to keep them moist. 👀🪴

Crested geckos also have thousands of microscopic hairs on their feet called setae, with even smaller hairs called spatulae. These hairs use van der Waals forces to create electromagnetic bonds with surfaces they touch, allowing them to stick.🌴🌱

Crested geckos are also nicknamed “eyelash geckos” because of the flexible spines above their eyes. To top it all off, crested geckos are hydrophobic, meaning water rolls off of them instead of sticking to them. 💧

All of these factors make crested geckos one of the coolest New Caledonian gecko species!🌿

Do you have a crested gecko? Drop your favorite gecko stories, pictures, and names below in the comments! 💚

🐢❓why does the turtle cross the road?? ❓🐢

To get to the other side… eventually!

🌷Spring and summer are prime seasons for spotting turtles out and about in the wild.

‼️ An estimated 10–20% of turtle deaths in the U.S. each year are caused by vehicle strikes. Over time, this contributes to an average 10% decline in turtle populations annually.

🚘🐢 If you see a turtle in the road…

✅ Identify the species:
Knowing which species of turtle you are working with can help you understand where it may be trying to go. It can also keep you safe—some tortoises have a strong bite!

❌ Never grab a tortoise by the face or tail:
Not only does touching a turtle’s face stress it out, but turtles have long necks that may extend to bite a predator. Grabbing a turtle by its tail can injure its spinal cord!

✅ Help move the turtle across the road:
Gently move the turtle across the road in the direction it was already going.

❌ Never take a turtle home as a pet:
Taking a turtle from the wild harms the population, risks spreading disease, and is often illegal.

✅ If you are unsure about moving a turtle, call:
The state wildlife or natural resources department, a local wildlife rehabilitator, or nature centers/environmental organizations.

💚Do you have any more questions about moving turtles across the road? I encourage you to ask away in the comments, tell your best turtle saving stories, or even your favorite turtle species!

🐢Even one saved turtle can make an impact!🐢

🌟 Support a Young Entrepreneur on a Wild Journey! 🦎💚

Hi everyone! It’s Savvy from Savvy’s Scales & Tails — my small business where I share the exciting world of reptiles through fun, hands-on educational shows for kids, schools, parties, and events across our community ! 🐢🐍🦎

Running this business has been an exciting adventure—and a big responsibility! From caring for my animals to upgrading their enclosures, traveling to events, and creating fun educational materials, every little bit adds up.

💚 If you’d like to support my journey as a young entrepreneur, I’m now accepting donations via Venmo — any amount truly helps and goes directly toward:

✨Food, care, and vet visits for my reptiles
✨Habitat upgrades, heating, and lighting equipment
✨Travel costs for educational visits & outreach programs
✨Creating fun, kid-friendly learning materials
✨Branded merch for events (like t-shirts & giveaways!)
✨New reptiles to expand the learning experience
✨Free or low-cost visits for schools and organizations that can’t afford a show

💚 Other ways to support (even if you can’t donate):
💬 Share this post with your friends & family
❤️ Follow, like, and comment on my pages
📢 Recommend me for parties, school events, libraries, or festivals
🎉 Book a show or invite me to your next event!
🙌 Leave a review or testimonial if you’ve seen a show!

Every dollar, share, or kind word helps me grow this dream of one day becoming a wildlife biologist and inspire other kids to love learning about reptiles, nature, and science! 🌿 Thank you so much for believing in me and my scaly squad.

With gratitude,
Savvy 🐍

💚Meet My Reptile Monday!💚

🦎Today’s reptile is Lennie the Uromastyx or more commonly known as the Egyptian spiny tail lizard. Lennie got his name due to his diet being primarily made up of Lentils. Uromastx are omnivores meaning they eat bugs and fruits/vegetables.

💚Uromastyx are recognized for their spiny tail, they use this tail to hit predators as a defense mechanism. When threatened they will flatten their body and whip their tail.

🦎Uromastyx will often appear with a white ring around their nose. This is because they sneeze a salt! Uromastyx have a gland by their nose used to excrete salt without losing their water content.

💚Males are typically more colorful than females and have a distinct pattern down their back. Uromastyx also change colors depending on their mood and temperature. They often appear darker when cold or angry and brighter when content or an optimal temperature.

🦎My favorite fun fact about uromastyx is that when they feel threateneded they will do a “shakira” dance and wiggle their body. I would recommend Uromastyx for beginner - intermediate level keepers. Uromastyx are great pets but require high heat and can sometimes be more temperamental.

💚Although they may be labeled as beginner - intermediate ALWAYS do your research before considering any animal!

Savvys Scales & Tails had the awesome opportunity to go to the Mt. Tabor Elementary school career fair. Students got to learn about the impacts of conservation as well as how to be a wildlife biologist, herpetologist, or even entrepreneur. Additionally they had the pleasure of meeting some of my scaly critters.

One of the highlights of this opportunity was having students come up and tell me they weren’t afraid of snakes anymore. I even had a fearful teacher face his fear and touch Captain Jack sparrow my red tail boa constrictor. That is what savvy’s scales & tails is all about, getting the bad reputation off of snakes and scaly critters and teaching students that they are just as important as any other animal.

Thank you again Mt. Tabor for supporting a young entrepreneur / aspiring wildlifefe biologist🦎🐍🐊
