Mascot is 4 months old, 27 pounds, and full of puppy love. He’s your typical puppy — play, nap, eat, repeat! And those puppy eyes? You can’t help but instantly start baby talking to him… I mean LOOK at him.

Returned twice.
Still the first one ready to make you smile.🐾

Nacho spent his Rescue Recess doing what he loves most: exploring, soaking up the sunshine, and turning every little moment into an adventure. From his walk by the water to relaxing and taking in the view, this sweet boy showed just how happy he is simply being around people. 💛

He’s playful, affectionate, goofy, and full of personality once he gets his energy out. The kind of dog who will make you laugh one minute and curl up beside you the next.

What breaks our hearts is that Nacho has already been adopted twice and returned both times in less than two months, by no fault of his own. Through it all, he still greets the world with a wagging tail in hopes that his real family is still out there.

Sometimes the best dogs are the ones still waiting.

Some heroes walked on two legs.
Some walked on four.

This Memorial Day, we remember and honor every life lost in service to our country.

Military working dogs have supported the U.S. military for decades in ways many people may not even realize. Throughout history, these dogs have served as explosive detection dogs, patrol and protection dogs, search and rescue dogs, scouts warning troops of danger and trackers helping locate enemies or missing people. Today, many continue serving as support and therapy dogs for military personnel and veterans.

The U.S. Army officially launched the K-9 Corps in 1942 during World War II. Since then, military working dogs have served alongside our troops in WWII, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan and modern special operations missions, helping save countless lives through their loyalty, courage and instinct.

Many served fearlessly beside their handlers without ever fully understanding the danger around them. They simply stayed loyal to the people they were trained to protect.

Today, we honor the courage, sacrifice and unbreakable bond shared between service members and the dogs who stood beside them through history’s hardest moments.

Their loyalty and sacrifice will never be forgotten. 🇺🇸🐾

165 days.

That’s how long Cuba has been waiting for someone to look past the stereotype.

At first glance, people see his size, his breed and his strong build. But when you actually sit with him, you realize something completely different.

Cuba is gentle. Calm. Affectionate. The kind of dog that leans into your hand for chin scratches and just wants to be close to someone.

He was surrendered by his previous owner and has spent the last 165 days watching people walk past his kennel, over and over again.

Now, Cuba is also waiting for surgery to repair his CCL tear and PBHSN will cover the cost of the procedure through our Community Clinic.

Despite everything he’s been through, he still greets people with love.

Cuba has lived with other dogs, loves both adventure and couch time and his adoption fee has already been sponsored.

Right now, we are in dire need of cat fosters! 🐾

Fostering gives cats a break from shelter life and helps them feel safe, relaxed and loved while they wait for their forever homes. Some need a quiet place to recover, some need socialization and others simply need a temporary home where they can finally breathe and decompress.

When you foster, you are truly saving lives. Every foster home opens up space for another animal in need and gives cats a better chance at adoption.

Even fostering for a short time can make a huge difference.

Nobody came back for Barbosa.

When he first arrived at DAS, he waited for someone to claim him but nobody ever did. Eventually, Barbosa made his way to Patty Baker Humane Society of Naples, where he became another overlooked shelter dog waiting for a second chance.

Then, thousands of people saw his story.
Your comments, shares and support helped Barbosa get noticed and he finally walked down our red carpet into his forever home. 💛

The people who left Barbosa behind were not the people he was meant for.

Thank you for helping us change lives, one story at a time. And thank you to Barbosa’s new family for choosing him forever. 🐾
