AARRF An Agility-based Rescue & Rehab Foundation. For short, you can call us aarrf! We are a very special 501 c (3) rescue for a very specific dog: herding type.

We are unique in that we use the Agility course to build the dogs' trust and bond with humans, and provide the mental and physical demands these dogs need. We give them a job that is rewarding and fun for handler and canine, and which can be done at his newforever home or on our course in Napa, CA. We receive our rescues from the Napa Shelter, Whiskers, Tails and Ferals, Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch, and other shelters who are having problems rehoming these special dogs.

Buck is being fostered at Wine Country Animal Lovers (WCAL). He is definitely part shepherd, and maybe part lab. He’s handsome, friendly, loves to snuggle and takes direction. Smart, way smart and very motivated. He is super fast and would make a winning agility dog. He can cut a corner and jumps high.
He’ll do fine as another dog in the house; he currently lives with 6 dogs from big to little. He will chase cats, but has a good recall. Like most herding dogs, he leans on you and likes to stay close which might be an issue for tiny children or elderly.
He’s fixed and up to date on shots, housetrained and comes with three free lessons at Astro’s Agility! If interested respond here or call WCAL at 337-5609.

Thank God the threat of more fires has finally abated. Napa County Shelter is still receiving more pets from burned out areas, and trying to foster them, re-unite them with their families, and down the line fine rehomes.

Thank you all who turned out October 10 and donated and helped me transport our crates and supplies. Just two days into the fire the shelter had processed close to 250 dishomed pets. That number doubled in the coming days.

The Shelter is still in need of help, volunteers to clean, to foster and to walk. They also need money so we are holding our October Fun Run as a Benefit to the Napa County Shelter.

Your dogs have been pent up for weeks. Please come enjoy a great dog day with tricks, agility, lunch and a costume contest. There are no admission charges, but please come with something to help the Napa Shelter.

Great prizes. All dogs on leash, all the time.

This is Guy, He's a 7 month old Dutch Shepherd mix and adorable. He's needs a job to do, and we've already started teaching him agility basics. If you're interested in this beautiful boy we will work with you to teach him agility (no big jumps until he's at least a year) free! He will totally bond with you and be your best and most loyal friend forever. Please respond in messenger if you're interested.

Everyone meet Lucky, our first dog up for adoption!

Lucky is a beautiful girl. At just over a year and one half she is loaded with love. On the first day of her surrender she was cuddling and rolling over for belly rubs. Her coat is luxurious with tufts of fur around her ears and the backs of her legs. She has a huge bushy tail that needs some combing, but otherwise she is low maintenance as far as coat. Lucky comes from Turkey. She was abandoned at 3-4 months and found by the local shelter near death, alone, in a field. The shelter restored her health, but she was fearful of initial contacts with humans and other dogs. Laura Dayton, owner of Astro’s Agility Academy in Napa, is fostering Lucky at present. She does not like loud sounds and quick movements, but does not respond aggressively. She just cringes. Laura has not experienced any biting, other than warnings air-snaps to other dogs to "stand back." She plans on eliminating this behavior. Lucky is now crate trained and very willing to meet new people, even men, whom she was previously shy of. Lucky has taken a shine to agility, and she is wickedly fast. We think this could be the outlet for her to forget about some of her fears, and give her a job she loves to do. She is meeting and greeting other women on the course and is doing fine. Still, this loving girl has deep battle scars. She does not like to be backed in a corner or have too many people around her. She is a one-person dog, and to that person she will be loyal and protective. She will be spending another month with her trainer Laura, and will be available for adoption July 29. She will then be happy to walk at your pace under leash, familiar with novice agility, will have had a Herding Instinct test, and possibly earned an AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certificate. We are taking applications now for adoption. Please go to to apply.

She is spayed, micro-chipped, housetrained and was up to date on all her vaccines in March of this year and given a clean bill of health.
