Everyone meet Lucky, our first dog up for adoption!
Lucky is a beautiful girl. At just over a year and one half she is loaded with love. On the first day of her surrender she was cuddling and rolling over for belly rubs. Her coat is luxurious with tufts of fur around her ears and the backs of her legs. She has a huge bushy tail that needs some combing, but otherwise she is low maintenance as far as coat. Lucky comes from Turkey. She was abandoned at 3-4 months and found by the local shelter near death, alone, in a field. The shelter restored her health, but she was fearful of initial contacts with humans and other dogs. Laura Dayton, owner of Astro’s Agility Academy in Napa, is fostering Lucky at present. She does not like loud sounds and quick movements, but does not respond aggressively. She just cringes. Laura has not experienced any biting, other than warnings air-snaps to other dogs to "stand back." She plans on eliminating this behavior. Lucky is now crate trained and very willing to meet new people, even men, whom she was previously shy of. Lucky has taken a shine to agility, and she is wickedly fast. We think this could be the outlet for her to forget about some of her fears, and give her a job she loves to do. She is meeting and greeting other women on the course and is doing fine. Still, this loving girl has deep battle scars. She does not like to be backed in a corner or have too many people around her. She is a one-person dog, and to that person she will be loyal and protective. She will be spending another month with her trainer Laura, and will be available for adoption July 29. She will then be happy to walk at your pace under leash, familiar with novice agility, will have had a Herding Instinct test, and possibly earned an AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certificate. We are taking applications now for adoption. Please go to www.aarrf.org to apply.
She is spayed, micro-chipped, housetrained and was up to date on all her vaccines in March of this year and given a clean bill of health.
