Friendly reminder: Remember to keep your pets indoors during the heat of the summer. Limit walks to early morning and night fall. Yes our pets need their exercise, but their feet burning or causing them heat stroke is NOT a loving act. Make sure they have lots of fresh water and NEVER leave them in the car if the temp is even a tiny bit questionable. Have a fun and safe summer with your furry pals! Xoxo

While at the park yesterday, in 100+ degree weather, I noticed a few people with dogs. One lady was standing on the hot pavement with her dog on a short leash which forced the dog to stand on the hot sidewalk as well... poor little pawz burning. Luckily she decided to go sit in the shade, but it brought awareness to me that not everyone realizes how hot sidewalk/pavement gets. It is a myth that the pads on a dogs pawz are tough... why do you think fiddo is jumping around? His pawz are burning!! Bend down and place your hand flat on the ground, is it hot? Would you want to walk barefoot on it? well neither would your pal I bet. Happy Thursday Friends! As hot as it's been lately, it can be hard to exercise our dogs. Remember, mind stimulation is an alternative to physical exercise when the weather is unbearable. Here is a short video of my girl, Kaiya, "working" with her food dispensing toy (The setting in this video is on easy, but can be set to more of a challenge as your dog gets the hang of it.) Interactive toys like the "StarMark Bob-A-Lot" can be found at most pet stores or on Amazon.com. There are tons to choose from. I just fill them with their regular dinner kibble and they love it! Enjoy!

Sun, fireworks, food & drinks are a few of the things Americans look forward to enjoying while we celebrate our freedom. But please keep in mind that our canine pals do not enjoy these things like we do. Not to mention the harm that can be caused to them.
