Warning this is a long brag post! This is why I love my job. These kids studied so hard to prepare for this day. And horse bowl is like quiz bowl but it's all about horses and a lot of information including veterinary care.
Congratulations to our Cherokee County 4-H Horse Club, Cherokee A Team, for winning the West District 4-H Horse bowl Junior Division Competition. We had two teams this year. Cherokee A Team was a seasoned horse bowl team with one rookie out of four members. Cherokee B Team was a team made up of four rookies that had never done horse bowl. This included two eight year olds who were told they were the cutest kids there competing. And then I was asked if they were old enough to compete and they're eight so they are.
It takes four members to make a team and the rules suggest having an alternate. We had eight members that wanted to compete. The seasoned team could have asked our leader, Erika Dennis Hedden and our assistant coach Amy Meiners , to only have one team so they could have an alternate but they wanted the rookie team to get a chance to compete. Both teams went in knowing that if just one person got sick they would not be able to compete. Everyone showed up and showed out today.
Our Cherokee B Team consisted of Zoe McGaha, Maylee Allen, Demi Killian, and Carson Allen. They did very well today for their first time at a district Horse Bowl competition. They have studied and practiced and I'm so proud of them.
Out of four teams, our Cherokee A Team finished first undefeated and our B Team finished 4th and they did well for their first time against some tough seasoned competitors. So our Cherokee A Team will be going to the State 4-H Horse bowl competition in March.
Congratulations too Eliana Meiners, Eliza Meiners, Bella Hedden, and Carlie James our 2024 West District 4-H Junior Division Horse Bowl Champions!!!!!
We are taking donations if you would like to support them and help them with their trip expenses because there will be an overnight hotel stay in Raleigh for the state competition. You can contact me by messenger or call me at the Extension Office 828-837-2210 ext 4.
