Dog training doesn’t have to be expensive.

Sometimes the changes you need to make aren’t all that dramatic.

Knowing which lever to pull is far more valuable than pulling the lever.

That’s where I come in.

Concerned about something your dog does, or doesn’t do?

Give me a call. It might be as simple as changing one basic thing.

It’s not always a big, expensive program or thousands of dollars to send your dog to boot camp. It might literally be one thing, and if it is - you buy one session and we’re done.

It's hard to believe the 4th of July is upon us!

This week's Tips on Tuesday focuses on SAFETY.

There will be lots of advice the next few days about how to help your dog cope with fireworks.

The truth is - it's too late to make any meaningful change in how they're going to feel. No judgement there - but you guys know I'm always a realist. You're not going to change their emotional state in 3 days. It's just not possible.

Safety is about the best we can do this time around and the one safety tip I rarely, if ever hear is - the simplest one of all!

Keep your pup(s) on a leash starting Thursday night and (probably) all the way through Sunday night.

Pet them, don't pet them, do some treat training, make them hold a place command... All things that you'll hear. Do whatever you like but SAFETY FIRST, so do it with them on their leash.

If you're home, this is the only 100% way to be sure they don't escape.

If you're not at home - try to make sure you have 2 doors between your pup(s) and freedom! Use a bedroom or other area for containment that doesn't have a door leading directly outdoors.

Break out their crate if need be but keep two barriers between your pup and freedom. This is how professional kennels are designed - for good reason.

When you come home put your leash on your pup IN THAT ROOM or before they leave their crate, then head out for a safe potty break.

I'll have some more tips and tricks this week for how to leash your pup around the house without constantly having to hold onto them, so stay tuned.

Have a friend or relative with a pup that's afraid of fireworks?

I'd appreciate a like and share!

Happy 4th!

Why I Coach Dog Owners

There are a lot of myths about dog ownership and training.

These days, with Google being the dog trainer’s biggest competitor, anyone, qualified or not, can say almost anything about how to train a dog and make it sound convincing.

You can become a “certified” dog trainer in 6 weeks, without touching a dog!
