We got to see “Talouse” today for his first vaccine appointment with us! He was a whole 3.4lbs at 12-weeks-old! He was a very food motivated kitten, didn’t matter the kind or flavor of the treat, he wanted it. We will see him soon for his next boosters!

Yesterday we got to see this cutie, “Saphira”! She was here as a new patient to establish care and plan for her spay! She was a little nervous, but really loved her cheese mat and did great for her blood draw. She got a cute, little tiger-striped bandage where her blood was drawn on her front limb to keep pressure!

We require pre-anesthetic blood work and an ECG before surgeries to ensure your furry friend is safe to go under anesthesia and receive certain medications.

Is your pet up to date on their Bordetella and Canine Influenza vaccinations? With the mystery respiratory illness that is affecting our canine companions, we highly encourage reaching out to your veterinary office to make sure your pet is up to date, or schedule an appointment if they are not!

For our feline parents, so far there is no evidence that this illness affects felines.

As many know, there is a mystery illness that has been seen in Oregon that exhibits symptoms like Kennel Cough, but can lead to Pneumonia. Typically these illnesses are spread through respiratory droplets, if you are concerned, limit exposure to dog parks, day cares, grooming, boarding due to the close contact at these facilities.

As of current, the AVMA and Oregon Veterinary Association recommend practicing precaution. If your dog is showing signs of cough, nasal or eye discharge, lethargy, fever, or inappetence, consult your veterinarian.

Can you believe we are already getting below freezing temperatures in October? This cold weather can pose serious threats to our pets - make sure you are taking the proper precautions of keeping your furry companion safe & warm!

Along with the recommendations in the infographic below, here are some other suggestions:
- Winter wellness: Cold weather can exacerbate some medical conditions, make sure your pet is up-to-date on their exam to ensure they are healthy to brave the cold.
- Know your pets limits: You may need to shorten your walks to protect everyone from weather-associated health risks. Pets with diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, etc. may have a more difficult time regulating their temperature. Check their paws after or during walks if any signs of lameness occur!
- Make sure your pet is properly identifiable with a collar or updated microchip: There are many lost pets during the winter months due to ice and snow masking the familiar scents of home.
- Prevent poisoning: Antifreeze is very toxic and deadly to our pets. Clean up messes and keep away from areas your pets may be.

Today we are highlighting Sierra for Veterinary Technician week!

Sierra started at the clinic in April of 2017, where she was hired as an intern from the Sno-Isle Veterinary Assistant program! She graduated from WSU in 2021 with a Bachelors in Animal Science and a Minor in Psychology. She will be leaving us in January of 2024 to attend St. George University to earn her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine.

Sierra has immense compassion for all animals, large and small. She has experience of the hospital from kennel, to assistant, to reception. We are so grateful to have her!

Today we are highlighting Whitney for Technician Appreciation week!

Whitney started at our clinic in late July with having mainly ER experience since 2018. Whitney's love for animals started at a young age growing up with her horses and dogs. Through her juvenile years, she showed beef cattle in 4H and FFA, and competed locally where she was able to teach those around her the importance of farmers and how to take care of and train livestock.

Whitney has caught onto the general practice side of veterinary medicine very quickly and is a great help! We are very grateful for you, Whitney!

“Kimchi” wanted to show everyone how much he loves his Churu treats! He was a very good boy for his exam, vaccines, blood work & ECG for his neuter! He could not decide if he liked tuna or chicken, so he ate both. His mom says he’s ‘kind of a big dill’!

We got to see sweet “Levi” today for his first exam and vaccines! He was such a good boy and was so relaxed that he took a nap on the floor while our doctor discussed his care with his person. He is going to be a big boy, we can’t wait to see how much bigger he is in 4 weeks!

“Levi” is a Bernese Mountain Dog, this breed originates from Switzerland. He is a working dog, which means he would be a good farm dog. Farmers used to this breed to pull carts containing milk and cheese, so they were often called “cheese dogs” by the locals! They are excellent companions and they usually tend to bond with one person. This breed was recognized by the AKC in 1937. Such a cutie!

09/06/2023

“Max B.” came back for his booster vaccine appointment today and has grown almost 2lbs in 3 weeks! He was a very good boy for his vaccine and his nail trim. Being 12-weeks-old now, he is old enough to receive his first Leptospirosis vaccine.

We highly recommend the Leptospirosis vaccine in Western WA, as it thrives in moist environments and it is usually pretty rainy here! It is also a zoonotic disease, which means humans can also contract it!

We especially recommend this vaccine if you do a lot of outdoor activities, such as hiking, camping, and walks. This disease is spread by infected wildlife urine like rats, mice, squirrels, raccoons, and other wildlife that can even pass through your yard! This disease can be found in soil, mud, lakes, rivers, puddles, etc. Symtpoms of Leptospirosis can include fever, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, severe pain, and can be fatal. This disease typically requires hospitalization.

Give us a call if you would like schedule for this vaccine or make sure your pet is vaccinated against this disease!
