SERVICE DOGS….
🐶 There is no governing agency or registration for service dogs in the US. Don’t get scammed by“registering” your dog & paying crazy fees.
🐶 Emotional Support dogs are NOT service dogs & are NOT covered by the American’s with Disabilities Act.
🐶 A true service dog is highly skilled & trained to perform a specific service to accommodate a disability. These dogs are TYPICALLY selected from a very young age for certain personality traits, drive, etc & trained for months or even years. Training a dog you already have to RELIABLY detect your low blood sugar etc. is unlikely. I’m not saying this never happens, but people call me all the time with dogs that have behavioral issues & want me to make them their service dog. If they have behavioral issues or they don’t know basic obedience, or they cant even go in public, becoming a service animal is not on the table. They don’t only have to perform the skill or service, they can’t be a menace in public.
