Happy Howl-o-Ween, everyone! 🐾🎃
We had an absolute blast seeing all of your amazing pups today at the Howlin' Halloween Bash in Peoria Heights! We are so endlessly grateful to be part of such a wonderful, welcoming dog community. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hi!
While Halloween is a blast for us, all the costumes, decorations, and constant ringing at the door can make it a downright spooky experience for our furry best friends. Since veterinary care and canine wellness are close to my heart, I want to share a few crucial AVMA pet safety tips to keep our hounds safe and sound tonight:
🍬Watch the Treats: Never feed your pets Halloween candy. Ingestion of raisins or candy containing chocolate or xylitol can cause severe poisoning.
🚫Prevent Intestinal Blockages: Keep glow sticks, decorations, candy wrappers, and parts of costumes out of paw's reach.
🐿Keep Kids & Critters Calm: A continuous parade of strangers in spooky costumes and constant door-opening can cause major stress and give pets an opportunity to escape. Give your pet a quiet, safe, secure hiding place inside away from the activity.
🔥Decor & Flame Safety: Keep lit candles, jack-o'-lanterns, and other decorations well out of reach to prevent burns or accidental fires.
ID Your Pets: Make sure your dog is properly identified with a registered microchip, collar, and ID tag just in case they slip out.
🎭 Costume Check: If your dog is dressed up, make sure their costume fits properly, has no chewable/choking hazards, and doesn’t hinder their sight, hearing, breathing, mouth movement, or ability to walk.
In case of an emergency or animal-related toxicity, keep the ASPCA Poison Control hotline handy at 1-888-426-4435, or reach out to your veterinarian!
Now, show us those spooky photos 👻🐶🦇
