Microchips Work!

Pepper, an 8-month-old spayed female brown tabby, was found on November 11 at 7th X King Street in Mission Bay. She was brought to the shelter by a Good Sam and impounded by our staff. A scan of Pepper found a microchip – always good news when we take in lost pets.

Our staff traced the microchip and found out that it was registered in Boise, Idaho. Nothing surprising in finding an animal microchipped in another state. People move, pets could be from a shelter or rescue group in another state, etc. But…. when our staff called the phone number from Pepper’s microchip info, they got a big surprise. Pepper’s owners live in Boise Idaho. They haven’t been to San Francisco, and they don’t know how on earth Pepper made it to San Francisco. It’s a mystery.

Pepper ran out of her home in Boise in early October and vanished. Her owners looked everywhere but could find no trace of Pepper. They were ecstatic to hear from us that she had been found safe and sound, albeit over 600 miles away. They drove all night long to get to SFACC and be reunited with Pepper. SFACC staff were overjoyed to meet Pepper’s parents and see her head back to her loving home in Boise.

Bernedoodles come in a variety of colors and fur types. Gravy is one of the most unique we've seen 😍. His owner wasn't sure if he was microchipped, so we scanned (he is) and registered (he wasn't).
