MINDFUL MONDAY 🐶

The WAIT command – like the PLACE command – is on our list of favorite commands to teach first. Just like “go to place,” any dog of any age can benefit from being told to wait. The "wait" command tells a dog to focus on you while staying where he is until released. This is different from the "stay" command because "wait" is for a shorter duration.

MINDFUL MONDAY 🐶

This is Bailey, an 18-month-old chocolate lab, on Day 3 of his two-week board and train. Bailey needed a helping hand with basic commands and controlling his high energy inside his home.

One of the first commands that Bailey worked on toward calming his indoor energy – and his habit of begging at the dinner table – was the PLACE command.

"Go to place" is one of our favorite commands to teach because any dog of any age can learn and benefit from its many different uses. The place command is different from "go lie down" because "place" is a designated spot (such as a dog bed, a mat or a raised platform) that the dog is trained to stay at until released.

MINDFUL MONDAY 🐶

Playing games with your pup is fun, but more importantly, games help you better communicate to your pup plus strengthen your bond. My Mindful Pup offers a wide range of games and activities in our training programs to teach your dog everything from mindful manners to life saving skills.

Biscuit displayed people and territory aggression caused by anxiety and insecurities. He wouldn't let me get near him! Luckily, he is food motivated so I introduced him and his owners to a few games to help him build confidence. He loved the "spin the bottle" game so much! It allowed him to become comfortable around me while he played. Biscuit also learned the place command after this and now he allows guests to come in while he's on "place."

At just 18 months old, chocolate lab Bailey is still a pup so high energy is expected. Our board-and-train program was best suited for teaching him the basic commands and learning to tame that constant energy.

Hey everyone! 🐾

I’m Leann Randazzo, owner and lead dog trainer of My Mindful Pup. We provide dedicated family dog training in the Lake Norman area and surrounding regions. Although we only opened recently in North Carolina (in 2020), I started training the basics to family and friend dogs at 10 years old – so it’s been a couple decades of doggy dedication!

I previously operated My Mindful Pup in New York before relocating and bringing the business with me. I’ve been a certified dog trainer since 2007, and pride myself on constantly learning all the new tips and tricks to train your pups as well as possible.
