🎉🎉 AFTER 2,241 DAYS… BORRIS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING!!! 🎉🎉

We can hardly believe we’re saying this, but after 6 YEARS of waiting… our boy Borris has FINALLY found his place to land. 💛 Poor Borris was unadoptable for various reasons, and thankfully, another local rescue stepped up and took him in.

A massive thank you to Pattie's Waggin' Tails Senior Sanctuary for opening her heart and her home to one of our longest residents.

Pattie doesn’t just take in seniors. She takes in:
The unadoptables
The hospice kids
The ones with nowhere else to go

She’s a true light in the rescue world—and she gives back in more ways than we can count. One of her newest missions?
“Seniors for Seniors”—pairing senior pups with senior citizens for love, companionship, and purpose. 🐶

If you or someone you know is looking for a sweet senior soul, Pattie’s your girl. 🙌

From the bottom of our hearts—THANK YOU, Pattie. And to Borris… we hope your golden years are filled with soft beds, full bowls, and all the love you waited so patiently for.

FOREVER home needed for this gentle soul….. Van’s foster family is going out of town soon. He is terrified at the shelter and we desperately want to find him a home before he has to return.

Van is loving his new foster home except they’ve discovered for us one thing… He cannot live with cats. This handsome fella has been through so much…

A message from his AMAZING foster family:

What I can say about Van Gogh after living with him for a little over a week and after a day or two of him feeling secure in a new environment. Van Gogh is a wonderful boy with a sensitive soul! He wakes up in the morning happy and wants to make his rounds to greet everyone in the house with his beautiful blue eyes and maybe just to let everyone know that he appreciates them. He goes to the fenced in yard trotting around and giving a bark if he feels it’s necessary before coming back in the house for his breakfast.
He has good manners and doesn’t beg or try to steal human food.
After eating he likes to hang out in the living room as a couch potato or by going into the dog crate to sprawl out. He loves the fan blowing on him wherever he is. Van Gogh prefers to be in the same room with his people because he’s truly a family dog. He loves to take afternoon walks on a leash. He walks well on a leash too! He sometimes barks at vehicles going by but doesn’t make much more of it and is easily redirected with that. He’d rather sniff out wildlife and stands at attention when he suspects there’s a critter lurking in the bushes. He’s an excellent watch dog and is very much housebroken. When he comes back inside from leash walks, he looks forward to getting a treat and takes it from your hand very gently as he is very conscientious of being the best he can be with his people. He really enjoys his wet food for dinner. He’s well behaved about getting a bath and will just stand there like a gentleman. When you have to leave he’s very good about going to the crate because he knows that’s what he has to do. When you get back, he’s grateful to see his people again. He’s very keen to play fetch with anyone willing. When it’s time for bed, if he’s allowed he likes to sleep at the foot of the bed with his own blanket to rustle with and sometimes even likes to be covered up with it. When he falls asleep, he’s been sleeping solid throughout the night. If he hears something outside that needs a reminder of his presence, he’ll let out a loud bark without carrying on.
He previously lived with dogs and was bonded with a female Newfoundland dog in particular but cats are his trigger and he doesn’t feel any sense of camaraderie with them or care to share space with them. A home with a fenced yard would be best for him.

🩷 Meet Sadie – A Sweet Soul in Need of a Loving Home 🩷

Sadie is a Husky Shepherd mix who is just under 5 years old with a heart full of love, despite the challenges she's faced in life. She has battled Idiopathic Epilepsy, but since arriving at the shelter, she hasn't had any seizures – her spirit remains strong! Unfortunately, the stress of shelter life has been hard on her, and she's been waiting patiently since October 2024 for a family to give her the love she deserves.

While Sadie has lived with other dogs, she has not been officially tested yet. Any potential fur-siblings would require a meet and greet. She would do best in a calm, peaceful environment where she can finally feel safe and loved. Sadie cannot live with cats, so a feline-free home would be ideal. 🚫🐱

Sadie is microchipped, spayed, and up-to-date on vaccines. She’s ready for her next chapter, and with the right person by her side, she will flourish.

Sadie’s time in the shelter has taken its toll, and we desperately want to see her in a home where she can feel at peace. If you have the love and patience to give Sadie the life she deserves, please consider offering her a second chance. She needs you.

If you’re ready to give Sadie the forever home she’s been waiting for, please submit an application today!

Happy news!
Little Lyla didn't have to stay here long before her foster family scooped her up and decided to adopt her 💗
Now named Maisy Mae and now living her best life.

We have taken in quite a few kittens and their mammas, as is the season, who are currently in fosters. Over the next few weeks we will be posting them in hopes of finding their puurrfect forever homes as soon as they're ready just like little Maisy Mae, and thank you to her new family💗💗

Hi, I’m Julie . After being away from the shelter for nearly three years, I’ve recently returned—and while it feels good to be back, my heart sank when I saw how many familiar faces were still here… still waiting. Dogs I knew and loved in 2022, still sitting in kennels through no fault of their own.

So, I’ve made it my mission to re-evaluate every dog—one by one. Some I’ve known for years, others I’m meeting for the first time. I want to truly know them again—to understand who they are today, what they need, and what kind of home would finally give them the life they deserve. I’m doing evaluations based on behavioral needs as well as just their personality overall.

And that brings me to Mack.
My favorite boy at shelter then and now.

Mack first came in as a stray in September 2021, I hadn’t seen him since 2022—until we recently reunited. And you know what? He remembered everything. Our bond, our training, the trust we built—it was all still there.

He’s shown me again just how incredible he is.

Mack is a 9- year-old Shepherd mix with a goofy soul, a huge heart, and the kind of loyalty you can’t teach. He’s shy at first but warms up quickly—and once he does, he’s full of zoomies, toy time, fetch, and cuddles. He even carries around his favorite giant stuffed animal like it’s a treasure.

He LOVES car rides, walks, and relaxing in the grass next to his favorite people.

He also has a manageable thyroid condition that’s treated with simple daily meds—and it’s made a big difference for him.

Here’s what Mack needs:
✔️ A calm home where he’s the only pet
✔️ Adults or older kids (he’s big and strong, but gentle)
✔️ A family who will give him time to settle and feel safe

Mack knows:
• Sit
• Down
• Stay
• Paw
• Drop it
• Come when called
• And he walks beautifully on a leash—even around other dogs

He’s neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and waiting. Still.

There is absolutely no reason this dog—or any dog—should grow old in a shelter. He’s ready. He just needs someone to say yes.

When it rains it pours..

Meet Lulu 💔. She was brought to us early yesterday morning by Officer Cali. Lulu and another dog were seen approximately 2 weeks ago in a wooded area-yesterday she was finally able to trap this fragile girl -no sightings of the other dog for the last week. 😔

Lulu is not microchipped, not spayed, and apart from being severely underweight and full of ticks, she is seemingly healthy. 🙏🏻 She will have a long road to recovery, not just medically, but emotionally. She is afraid of people (can you blame her), but has quickly trusted one of our staff members and is showing us her loving side. ❤️ We are now even getting tail wags when we enter the room and kisses when we sit with her.
We believe she is a black lab/hound mix due to her small stature, and 1-2 years old....already having puppies in the past. Lulu and dogs like her are why we are here, to provide refuge to those who had none and a safe space to learn how to trust again, a place to heal. Thank you, Dr. Mike and the staff at Town and Country for getting her in so quickly so we can ensure we start her healing process!💗

*She was trapped in Mehoopnay Pa, the collar in pictures 1-3 was left on her. If you have any information on where she may have came from, please contact the shelter.

Happy Tounge Out Tuesday from Kevin!

Meet Kevin!

This handsome boy is Kevin, just under 3 years old and a Husky Retriever mix weighing around 42 pounds, he has been with True Friends since October of 2023 . Kevin is up-to-date on vaccines, neutered, and microchipped – but what he really needs is a forever home where he can thrive.

Kevin is a high-energy, loving dog who absolutely adores people and affection. While he gets along with most dogs, he can be a bit rough during play, so a dog around his size and stamina would be ideal. Meet and greets wpuld be required. Kevin also seems fine with cats, but we strongly recommend a home with no children. With proper training and a dedicated owner, he will become the best companion you could ask for. 💙

Kevin LOVES tennis balls and can entertain himself for hours with one, especially if you’re watching him! 👀 He is housebroken and knows some basic commands, and we are working on his leash manners and obedience training. This boy has a lot of energy to burn, and he thrives in environments where he can stay active – so a home with a big yard and an owner who understands his needs is ideal.

Kevin has a bite history and requires a family that is willing to put in the time and effort to work with him on his behavior and energy management. He used to be a very nippy boy and unfortunately was too rough with a young adult in the home. He is a wonderful dog at heart, but he needs someone who can commit to helping him become the best boy he can be. Kevin loves being outdoors in all kinds of weather and has plenty of pent-up energy that needs an outlet.

If you think you can offer Kevin the active, patient home he needs, please submit an application. He deserves the chance to live his best life with someone who will help him grow into the wonderful dog we know he can be.

Some of you may remember this big guy from Sunday. Sadly, he was brought to us as a stray and in very bad shape. We are calling him Koda, and he needs our help.

This gentle giant is not only infested with fleas, but covered in open sores, a raw neck from being tied out, dermatitis issues, severe ear infections and riddled with masses. Due to his age (we believe he's around 11) this raises even more concerns. His breed adds another layer of difficulty as he is not built to be here, our kennels aren't large enough, he's a livestock dog through and through, and we believe he will decline quickly here.

While we are slowly getting back on our feet, medical bills keep piling in, and this will be no different. We've had numerous sick kittens, puppies who were on the brink of death, spays/neuters, sick seniors, and everything in between...and now we are here to help Koda. The vet believes (as do we) that this sweet boy has endured years of neglect, and sadly he will need a few surgeries in his future. This old soul needs us, and we need you. Koda will require extensive tests to find out what the masses are, if there are any other underlying issues, and just general medical attention to help him heal. Through it all, he has shown nothing but love and wants to stay around whoever he meets.

We are pleading for your help once again as we fight to help Koda and so many others who have been neglected. Our medical fund is dwindling, please, if you can help, do so. Any and all donations, thoughts, prayers, and shares are so very appreciated.
We are also looking for a foster home or adopters for him! They must be breed savvy (Anatolian Shepherd/Pyrenees) and be aware of the commitment. He is a large dog (just over 100lbs), he requires room to move around, he's not exactly aware of how big he is, and he is a senior.

Thank you again for any and all support and send this big guy some love 💙
