Meet Oakley: part dog, part bear, part full-body workout. 😂🐻🐾

We LOVE this big guy, but there is simply no other way to say it: Oakley is a tag-team dog.

One groomer? Absolutely not.
Two groomers? Now we’re getting somewhere.
Two groomers AND three hours? That should do it. 😂

Leonbergers are BIG dogs. Adult males can weigh over 150 pounds, and when you combine that much dog with a massive double coat, grooming becomes a full-scale production. Bathing, drying, brushing, deshedding, trimming, lifting a paw that weighs approximately the same as a small dog… it all takes time. 😂

But Oakley makes every minute worth it. He is genuinely the BEST boy for the entire process, and we absolutely love having him at Hund Haus.

Three hours.

Hund Haus owner and groomer, Taylor Yeagle, has officially completed Animal Behaviour and Welfare through The University of Edinburgh!

While grooming may be what happens on the table, understanding the animal on that table is just as important.

This course explored animal behavior, body language, stress, welfare assessment, companion animal needs and how behavior can help us understand what an animal may be experiencing.

At Hund Haus, we believe a successful groom isn't simply one that looks good when it's finished. How your pet experiences the process matters, too.

Continuing education in animal behavior and welfare complements the Fear Free and professional grooming education already incorporated into our salon and helps us continue making thoughtful decisions about handling, breaks, boundaries and when a grooming service may simply be too stressful for an individual animal.

We can't promise every dog will love getting their nails trimmed. 😉 But we can promise we'll keep learning how to listen when they communicate with us.

🐱 A Quick Note About Cat Grooming at Hund Haus

We receive quite a few questions about grooming services for cats, and we keep getting tagged in posts looking for cat groomers, so we want to clearly explain what we offer here, and, more importantly, why.

At Hund Haus, we offer necessary grooming services for cats, including:

🐾 Nail trims
🐾 Sanitary trims
🐾 Matting removal

We do not offer vanity or style haircuts for cats, and we do not offer cat baths or blowouts.

This is an intentional decision based on the welfare of the animal.

For many cats, traveling outside of their home, being handled by unfamiliar people, and going through the grooming process can be incredibly stressful. Unlike dogs, most cats do not benefit from routine professional bathing or haircuts. When grooming isn’t necessary for their health, hygiene, or comfort, we believe the kindest option is to avoid putting them through unnecessary stress.

That does not mean cats don’t require grooming and maintenance.

Just like dogs, different breeds and coat types have different needs. Long-haired and dense-coated cats may require frequent brushing and combing at home to prevent tangles, impacted coat, and painful matting. Once severe matting develops, professional intervention may become necessary, but prevention is always preferable.

We also strongly encourage everyone to research the breed, coat type, temperament, and care requirements of any animal before bringing them home. Part of responsible pet ownership is understanding what that animal will need throughout its lifetime and honestly assessing whether you’re willing and able to provide that care.

Our goal at Hund Haus has always been to provide grooming services that prioritize the animal’s health, comfort, and well-being. For our feline clients, that means stepping in when grooming is necessary, and avoiding unnecessary stress when it isn’t. 🐾

WOW… our community is incredible! 💙📚

Just look at what we’ve collected so far for Montoursville School District students!

Because of YOUR generosity, we’ve already received:
🎒 11 backpacks
💧 9 water bottles
🍎 5 lunch boxes
✏️ A tote overflowing with school supplies!

A huge thank you to Whacker Excavating for their generous $50 cash donation!

Our owner also contributed $200 cash, so we headed out shopping to help fill in the most-needed supplies. From notebooks and folders to binders, crayons, pencils, markers, lunch boxes, and even a few essentials many students don’t always have access to, every item was chosen with local kids in mind.

Seeing all of this together is honestly incredible. What started as an idea has turned into a community coming together to make sure students head back to school feeling prepared, confident, and supported.

There’s still time to help! Our School Supply Drive runs through August 21, and we’d love to see this tote overflowing, or even a second one full, by the end of the drive.

We're incredibly proud of our owner, Taylor Yeagle, for continuing to invest in her education and, ultimately, in the care every dog receives at Hund Haus.
Taylor recently completed Duke University's Dog Emotion and Cognition course through Coursera, an in-depth program exploring how dogs think, learn, communicate, and experience the world around them.
At Hund Haus, we believe exceptional grooming goes far beyond making dogs look beautiful. Understanding canine behavior, body language, stress signals, and emotional well-being allows us to provide a safer, lower-stress experience for every pet that comes through our doors.
