Essential oils to the rescue!

Fireworks are beautiful, but are scary for pets. We stayed outside for a bit, dogs seemed unsettled with all the noise so we came back inside and I put stress away essential oil on their spines and diffused this oil as well.

Now sleeping 😴

This is the biarding school I attended back in 1981. Many of the good teachers at my local high school were being forced to quit due to not enough funds so I was sent to boarding school.

I had a few choices but my brother David loved Darrow and suggested I go there, so I did. I had just lost my Grandma Rose and our family dog Cami, so making a decision to leave was hard, so David helped me make this important decision-he drove to Darrow with me to see it too.

I believe Darrow changed my life for the good. School was Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and 1/2 day Saturday, Wednesday was our day to work on the school grounds to keep Darrow amazing for staff and students. I was able to help make a quilt that my brother won, instead of freezing outside, I was inside drinking hot cocoa. Some jobs were outside too. Hands to Work, Hearts to G-d was our Wednesday slogan. I loved Darrow!

I attended Darrow in 11th and 12th grades. I was always on effort honors and academic honors, so I had privileges too.
In 12th grade I was able to open up to our nurse and a friend what my father was doing to me, and I was secretly able to spend time with my sister Ellen at her boarding school, Berkshire School to see if the same was happening to her. I was put into intense therapy while at boarding school, without my parents knowing.

Darrow gave me the ability to be me, not be my brother's shadow. David was 2 years ahead of me in school so teachers would say "David got an A in my class." At Darrow I got A's without pressure, and loved school! 2 hours after school was sports. I learned how to ride a horse and jump too, skiing and tennis after school of course! I taught my friend how to ski so she could go to Sugarbush with us on winter break. She met the Brauns too. Ervin Braun said to Lisa on a diamond slope, "you don't need moguls to stop you, I will be right below you to stop you."

Darrow connected me to Lisa Roitsch, Peter Burgos, Laurie Chittenden Geraldi, Irene Hanna and so many more amazing people. I hope and 🙏 Darrow finds a way to stay open. So many memories I will always cherish from boarding school.

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE.

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO
IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.

I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
NOT EVEN A TREE.

NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
A SOBER THOUGHT
CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
SILENT, ALONE,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED
A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.

WAS THIS THE HERO
OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
THE FLOOR FOR A BED?

I REALIZED THE FAMILIES
THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.

SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM
EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

I COULDN'T HELP WONDER
HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES
AND STARTED TO CRY.

THE SOLDIER AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
"SANTA DON'T CRY,
THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;

I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,
MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS."

THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER
AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,
I CONTINUED TO WEEP.

I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
SO SILENT AND STILL
AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.

I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE
ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
SO WILLING TO FIGHT.

THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA,
IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE."

ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
"MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT."

Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S. service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let’s try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us. Please, do your small part to plant this small seed.
