🌍🦔 HEDGEHOGS AROUND THE WORLD — STOP #9: THE LONG-EARED HEDGEHOG

Get ready to fall in love! ❤️ This week, we’re meeting one of the most adorable and unusual members of the hedgehog family—the Long-eared Hedgehog (Hemiechinus auritus)!

👂 Those ears are REAL! They’re not just ridiculously cute. These oversized ears help the hedgehog detect the tiniest sounds and release excess body heat in hot climates.

🏜️ Found across dry regions of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, this little adventurer is perfectly adapted to life in deserts and grasslands.

🏃 Here’s the funny part: While most hedgehogs rely on curling into a prickly ball when frightened, this one often chooses a different strategy—RUN! Its surprisingly long legs make it a speedy little escape artist.

🌙 After sunset, it searches for beetles, scorpions, and other small creatures, using its excellent hearing and sensitive nose to locate dinner.

And those enormous ears give it the appearance of a tiny desert mouse wearing a spiky winter coat!

❤️ Nature certainly had a sense of humor when designing this one!

My alarm went off this morning, and I seriously considered reporting it for disturbing the peace! ⏰🤣 Monday has arrived with its usual bad attitude, my motivation is still under the blankets, and my coffee has a very important job to do! ☕😴
Wishing you a Monday with fewer surprises, more laughter, and absolutely no emergencies before breakfast! ❤

𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗧𝗟𝗘 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗦 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗢𝗨𝗟
🦔 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗛𝗔𝗗𝗢𝗪 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗪𝗔𝗟𝗞𝗘𝗗 𝗕𝗘𝗦𝗜𝗗𝗘 𝗛𝗜M

On Halloween night the moon was so bright the forest looked almost silver.
Bramble hurried home along the path, carrying a small lantern that barely held its flame. Behind him stretched a long, dark shape that moved when he moved.
He stopped.
The shape stopped.
He took one careful step.
The shape took one too.
Bramble’s heart beat faster. He had heard the stories. Something was following him. Something big. Something that belonged to the night.
He spun around, ready to run.
There was no monster.
Only his own shadow, stretched long and strange across the moss by the moonlight.
For a moment Bramble still felt afraid. The shadow looked nothing like the small hedgehog he knew. It was taller. Sharper. Harder to recognize.
He lifted the lantern higher. The shadow softened a little, but it did not disappear.
“It’s only me,” he whispered.
The words felt strange at first. Then they felt true.
Bramble turned and walked on. The shadow walked with him, no longer a stranger. Just the part of him the light had made large for a while.
And he learned:
Sometimes the thing that frightens us most
is only a version of ourselves
we have not yet made peace with.
