🐾 BEFORE YOU TRAIN YOUR DOG, CHECK YOUR OWN STATE OF MIND.

Your dog can sense more than you think. Your energy, body language, and especially your tone of voice all play a role in how they respond to you.

One of the most overlooked parts of dog training is understanding that how you say something can matter just as much as what you say.

Dogs don’t just listen to our words. They pay attention to our tone, our body language, our energy, and our reactions.

If you’re frustrated because your dog isn’t listening, raising your voice, repeating commands louder, or letting your emotions take over isn’t going to make the learning process better.

In fact, it can create confusion, stress, and a negative association with training.

Think about it:
🐾 A calm voice builds confidence.
🐾 Consistency builds understanding.
🐾 Patience creates a better learning environment.
🐾 Positive communication builds trust.

If your dog isn’t getting it, take a step back. Make the exercise easier. Give them a break. Come back when both of you are in a better mindset.

Remember, your dog isn’t giving you a hard time. They may be having a hard time understanding what you’re asking.

Leadership isn’t about being louder or more forceful. It’s about being clear, calm, consistent, and fair.

Your dog looks to you for guidance. Make sure you’re giving them someone worth looking to. ❤️🐾

🐾🎓 WELCOME TO THE KERR K9 PACK, BROWNIE! 🎓🐾

Brownie has officially graduated from Kerr K9 Academy, and now he’s part of the pack! 🐶❤️

This little guy has worked hard over the past two weeks, making some BIG strides in confidence, grooming, recall, and learning how to navigate the world around him.

One of our favorite victories? Brownie went from needing sedation for haircuts to willingly allowing grooming while enjoying treats and building trust. That’s what progress looks like! 🙌

His journey is a great reminder that with patience, consistency, and the right approach, we can help dogs overcome challenges and build confidence.

Brownie, we’re proud of you, buddy! Your training journey doesn’t end here. You’ll always have a place in the Kerr K9 family! 🐾💙

Once you’re part of the pack, you’re always part of the pack! 🐕🎓

🐾 BROWNIE’S BIG WIN! ✂️❤️

This is what building confidence looks like!

When Brownie first came to us, getting a haircut was such a stressful experience that he needed to be sedated just to have his hair cut. Grooming was something he struggled with, and we knew we needed to help him feel differently about the experience.

Today, we celebrated a HUGE milestone! 🎉

With patience, positive reinforcement, and plenty of treats, Brownie allowed us to cut his hair for 10 minutes! But the best part? After taking a break, he willingly ran right back to his place table, relaxed and eager for more! 🥹🐾

Think about that for a second. A dog who previously needed sedation for a haircut was now choosing to come back and participate in the experience.

We didn’t force him. We didn’t rush him. We gave him the time, patience, and positive experiences he needed to start building confidence.

Is Brownie completely over his fear? Not yet. We still have work to do, and we’ll continue at his pace. But today was a HUGE step in the right direction!

This is why dog training is about so much more than teaching commands. Sometimes the biggest victories aren’t a perfect heel or a flawless recall. Sometimes they’re about helping a dog feel safe enough to try something that once terrified him.

Building confidence. Strengthening bonds. One small victory at a time. ❤️🐶

Way to go, Brownie! We’re so proud of you!

🐶 Bringing Home a New Puppy? Start Training Early! 🐾

Bringing home a new puppy is exciting! ❤️ Those little paws, puppy kisses, and goofy personalities bring so much joy to a family. But those first few months are also one of the most important times in your dog’s life.

Puppy classes aren’t just about teaching your dog to sit. They’re about building the foundation for a lifetime of success. 🐾

Here’s why starting early matters:

🐕 Socialization: Help your puppy learn to feel comfortable around new people, places, sounds, and environments. It’s not about meeting every dog or person—it’s about learning to stay calm and confident in the world around them.

🎓 Basic Obedience: Build the foundation for commands like sit, down, come, place, and walking nicely on a leash.

🧠 Impulse Control: Teach your puppy that jumping, biting, and demanding attention aren’t the only ways to get what they want.

❤️ Building a Bond: Your puppy is learning how to communicate with you. Training builds trust, strengthens your relationship, and helps your puppy learn that you’re someone they can look to for guidance.

🏡 Better Family Life: The habits your puppy develops today can shape the adult dog they become tomorrow.

🐾 The best time to start isn’t after bad habits develop—it’s before they become habits!

You don’t have to wait until your puppy is older to begin training. With age-appropriate lessons, positive experiences, and consistency at home, you can help your puppy grow into a confident, well-mannered family companion.

Remember, you’re not just raising a puppy. You’re shaping the dog you’ll live with for years to come. ❤️🐶

Start early. Be consistent. Build confidence. Strengthen the bond. 🐾

🐾 ANXIOUS DOGS NEED TO EXPERIENCE THE WORLD — ONE STEP AT A TIME. 🐾

When you have an anxious dog, it’s tempting to keep them home where everything feels safe and familiar. But sometimes, the best thing we can do is gently introduce them to new environments. ❤️

🌎 Why does this matter?

🐕 Builds confidence: Every positive experience teaches your dog that new places don’t have to be scary.

👂 Creates neutrality: The goal isn’t for your dog to greet every person or dog they see. It’s to learn that they can exist calmly around distractions without feeling overwhelmed.

🧠 Reduces uncertainty: Controlled exposure helps dogs learn how to process unfamiliar sights, sounds, smells, and experiences.

🤝 Strengthens your bond: When you guide your dog through an unfamiliar environment with patience and understanding, you teach them that they can look to you for support.

⚠️ But here’s the important part: Exposure alone isn’t the answer. Flooding an anxious dog with too much stimulation can make their fear worse. We want to work at a distance and intensity where the dog can still think, learn, and recover.

That might mean watching people from across a parking lot, walking outside a football game from a comfortable distance, or simply sitting somewhere new and observing the world.

Progress isn’t measured by how close we can get to the chaos. It’s measured by how comfortable our dog becomes while experiencing it.

Every dog is different. Some may take a few minutes to settle, while others need multiple visits before they feel comfortable. Be patient, celebrate the small wins, and remember that progress isn’t always a straight line.

❤️ The goal isn’t just a dog that behaves. It’s a dog that feels more confident navigating the world alongside you.

🐾 THE REELS SHOW THE RESULT. THEY DON’T SHOW THE PROCESS.

Scroll through social media, and you’ll see dogs performing perfect obedience, walking calmly on a leash, coming when called, and responding like they’ve been doing it their entire lives.

What you don’t always see is everything that happens behind the scenes.

The repetition. The patience. The trial and error. The frustration when something that worked yesterday doesn’t work today. The small steps forward, the setbacks, and the countless moments spent building understanding and trust.

Dog training isn’t always pretty, and it certainly isn’t always easy. Every dog learns differently, at their own pace, and what works for one may not work for another.

At Kerr K9 Academy, we believe real training is about more than getting a dog to perform a command. It’s about building confidence, creating communication, and strengthening the bond between dog and handler.

And then, one day, something clicks. 💙

You see the understanding in their eyes. You feel the connection. The dog finally understands what you’ve been trying to communicate, and all those hours of work suddenly make sense.

That moment is magical.

That’s the part we love. Not just the finished product, but the journey it took to get there.

Because great training isn’t built in a 30-second reel. It’s built through patience, consistency, leadership, love, and trust.
