Our journey with Mr Ghost.

Ghost came to us in 2020 during COVID, at a time when our equestrian program was little more than a dream.

I rode him as recently as this spring before retiring him to pasture. He spent the summer of 2025 in retirement before coming down suddenly with what the veterinarian diagnosed as EPM - a neurological disease.

Ghost’s journey represents the most rewarding, and also most challenging, aspect of caring for horses.

If you’ve visited the farm, no doubt you interacted with Ghost in some way.

Here are a few snapshots; glimpses into the time we had with him, & his contribution to our riding program.

FARM CAMP!!

In Short: Three Days of horsemanship, dairy education, nature appreciation, food preparation, and character building.

August 5, 6, & 7.

Tuesday, August 5:
Camper drop off at the farm, 9:00 am welcome and orientation.
This day’s focus is an introduction to the farm, animals, & pairing groups of 2 with the perfect horse. Focus on grooming, tacking, & introductory horsemanship.
Intro to dairy production and cow care.
Lunch included!
Camper pickup at 5 pm.

Wednesday, August 6:
Camper drop off at the farm, 9:00 am.
Horsemanship, with games & riding.
Focus on teamwork!
Lunch provided, picnic-style with nature walk along the farm’s creek setaside.
Games & scavenger hunt along nature trail.
Afternoon/evening horseback riding, with sunset trail ride.
Evening: Parents meet at farm for dinner (provided), & movie night at the farm’s outdoor pavilion, with chance for parents to enjoy nature walk.
Campers return home with parents.

Thursday, August 7:
Camper dropoff at farm, 9:00 am.
Mane trimming demonstration with our very own Norwegian Fjord team!!!
Horsemanship, working in teams in the arena.
Lunch provided.
Early afternoon: Paint your horse; intro to pencil sketching & watercolor.
Horse grooming, braiding, & show preparation.
Parents arrive 4:00 pm to observe horse show!! Campers work in teams to demonstrate skills, with awards.
Dinner provided.
Campers check out & depart, 6:00 pm.

COST per Camper: $650.

AGE of Camper: 10 to 18 (4th grade through 12th grade)

If small farms are going to survive, they will need to develop a direct-to-consumer relationship of some sort.

I saw the writing on the wall back in 2017, & it’s worth noting: HAVE YET to be taken seriously by mainstream agricultural & commercial lending institutions.

Our greatest challenge to date has *not* been filling vacancies at our farmstay, building a thriving (and financially viable) horseback riding program, OR EVEN adding a food service component to the mix…

Our greatest challenge has been acquiring decisive capital to fuel the growth that is so obviously available if you allow yourself to look past the trees to see the forest.

The bottom line is, Traditional Farmers have a unique skillset that is highly desirable and, with a little outside-the-box thinking, easily monetized. 

CNN gets it.

Any forward-thinking angel investors out there?

And then one day, it all comes together.

OUR FIRST EVENT hosted on the farm in our newly completed event space, *with food service*, & an introspective tour of our working, 4th generation dairy farm.

THANK YOU to those who showed up & partcipated in - a film premiere with reflection & great conversation.

The point of Observer Day is to engage the world around you, rather than simply exist through it; The perfect subject matter to complement the outreach, education, and authenticity of what we offer.
